The Foywonder's Ten Worst Horror Films of the Decade

23 December 2009 8:31 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective. Then I said screw it and took it upon myself to do one of my own naming the ten worst horror movies of the past decade. Besides, people love bitching on the Internet about lists like this, and who am I to deny readers yet another excuse to get into pointless flame wars over personal opinions.

Of course, this list is just my personal opinion which is not legally binding ... unless Proposition 304 passes. And we all pray that it will.

I set two rules when putting this list together: Only horror movies that received fairly wide theatrical »

Jim Carrey was among the first to crack a joke in Tiger Woods' direction, and Saturday Night Live and David Letterman have since taken their best shots. But White Chicks star Marlon Wayans' rapidfire Twitter updates today have us totally LOLing! "This whole Tiger Woods thing is like Hoes Anonymous," he writes. "These chicks are just confessing...'my name is Jaimee Grubbs and I'm [a] hoe…'" Ba-dum-bump ching! ‘Taken’ Gets a Pseudo-Sequel

8 December 2009 7:57 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

I didn’t see Liam Neeson in Taken. I heard conflicting reports — some loved its over-the-top violence, others found it to be a complete waste of time. Considering my personal tastes, I’d bet that I will side with the first group whenever I get the chance to see it.

For those of you who are fans of Taken, however, I have good news for you: Robert Mark Kamen, the screenwriter behind Taken, has just sold a script entitled Vengeance to CBS Films. The goal is to create another modestly budgeted action picture, “very much in the vein of Taken.”

Kamen himself had some words about the script:

“Basically, it’s a contemporary revenge love story — what happens when violence meets love,” Kamen said. “The main characters are 20 and Italian, and there are themes that echo films like The Godfather. It’s about family loyalty and how much someone owes their family and the past. »

Nick Jonas Breaking Away From His Brothers

30 November 2009 7:47 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

First Kevin goes and gets engaged, showing that his world no longer revolves around his brothers. Now, younger brother Nick Jonas is taking a step on his own as well.

At least for a little while.

The youngest of the brothers in the band The Jonas Brothers (the boys have another brother that isn’t in the band, but does have a role on the Disney Channel show Jonas), Nick is ready to move on to a side project with band the Administration.

Seventeen-year-old Jonas began recording with the Administration, a quartet based out of Nashville, this past spring, and will be touring with the band for the month of January.

The tour comes in preparation for the February release of the band’s album Who I Am. It also follows on the heels of the band’s debut performance on December 2nd on CBS’s Grammy Nominations Concert Live! »

Producers cut ‘Beverly Hills Cop 2′ & ‘3′ from upcoming sequel

16 October 2009 2:04 PM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be a sequel to the original 1984 Martin Brest film and will toss aside Beverly Hills Cop 2 and 3.

Directed by Brett Ratner and written by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, Beverly Hills Cop 4 will bring back detectives Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton). Reinhold is reportedly on board for the project while Ashton is in final negotiations.

Haas and Brandt, who collaborated on 3:10 to Yuma and Wanted (both were adaptations from previous source material), will adapt their script for Dying Day, a film centered on a two FBI agents who discover that the entire office is on the take. The story will lean towards a dark comedy but provide ample opportunities for Eddie Murphy to provide some laughter.

The news is reminiscent of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns which nixed the Superman III and Superman IV from super-history in order to bring the »

Ryan Reynolds Is A Cross-Dresser

16 October 2009 12:08 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Ryan Reynolds, your 11th sexiest man alive, is set to cross-dress in his next as-yet untitled comedy. The sometime-Deadpool and soon-to-be Green Lantern will be donning dress and mascara to win his ex back, in one of the more unusual dating strategies we've heard. In a plot that sounds suspiciously like Mrs Doubtfire with the children removed (or Some Like It Hot without any gangsters or millionaires), the cross-dressing will be allowing Reynolds' dude-y character to befriend the ex who dumped him and hopefully win her back (our prediction: not that easy, but Life Lessons will be learned before the happy ending). It's all being written by Allan Loeb, the 21 and Wall Street 2 screenwriter, and produced by Working Title. So now the question becomes: where will it fit on the spectrum of cross-dressing comedies? Above White Chicks, we feel sure, but how will it fare against She's The Man or Total Recall? »

Gerard Butler keeps a sequel to ‘300′ on the table

9 October 2009 1:46 PM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Gerard Butler is a badass. Secondary, he’s an actor and like an actor he makes movies that need to be promoted. Like actors that make movies that need to be promoted, he sat down with MTV to answer some of their hard hitting questions like, “Hey, what’s going on with 300 2?”

“I don’t know how real it is,” Butler said while promoting his latest film Law Abiding Citizen. “I had an incredible time doing the first one, and I think that if the first one was a stand-alone, as a one-off, there’s no bad thing in that.”

A sequel to 300 has been bantered about by internet pundits when their focus is taken away from Batman 3 or whichever pop star or sexpot actress is rumored to play catwoman. In the past, 300 director Zack Snyder said he might be interested in a follow-up if the story’s creator, Frank Miller, »

Marlon Wayans Plays Richard Pryor

8 October 2009 2:25 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

What is Eddie Murphy doing? The Richard Pryor film (written and directed by Bill Condon of Dreamgirls) seemed to suit him, the first time in a long time that he had an opportunity to do something of real magnitude, but according to Entertainment Weekly he has dropped out after conflicts with the studios and is to be replaced by Marlon Wayans. Wayans seems like an odd choice for the role, but apparently he aced the screen test: While Wayans is primarily known for his comedic roles in Wayans Bros.’ movies such as Dance Flick and White Chicks, he received critical acclaim for his dramatic turn in 1999’s Requiem for a Dream. Sources tell EW.com that Wayans fought for the role, blowing the producers away with a 13- min screen test where he “transforms into Pryor.” Suddenly he has become much funner.  Actually, it makes me think of Jamie Foxx »

Marlon Wayans channeling Richard Pryor for role

8 October 2009 7:28 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Entertainment Weekly is exclusively reporting that Marlon Wayans is in negotiations to play comedian Richard Pryor in the biopic Is it Something I Said. Producing the movie are Chris Rock, Pryor's widow Jennifer Lee Pryor and Mark Gordon, with the project set up at Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) has written the script and will direct the $20 million dollar production. For a period of time Eddie Murphy had been attached to play the legendary comedian but EW says that differences with Paramount caused him to drop out of the running. Wayans wasn't everyone's first choice to play Pryor but the magazine states that after he taped a 13-minute screen test where he apparently "transforms" into Pryor, the Requiem For a Dream and G.I. Joe actor leapt to the top of the candidates list. Who knew that the guy cashing checks for starring in White Chicks »

Marlon Wayans Has a Pryor Commitment

8 October 2009 7:02 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Less than eight months ago, it was confirmed that Eddie Murphy would play the lead role in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?, a biopic about the legendary comedian. Bill Condon, who directed Murphy to an Oscar nomination in Dreamgirls, wrote the screenplay and was set to direct. The film was going to be made at Paramount, the studio behind Dreamgirls. Murphy used to do a killer impression of Pryor in his stand-up act. It seemed like the perfect plan.

But then -- record scratch! -- everything fell apart. Entertainment Weekly reported late Tuesday night that Murphy had left the project "over conflicts with Paramount," and that now Paramount is gone, too. Condon is still directing, but the film will now be produced by Sony Pictures and Happy Madison Productions (Adam Sandler's company). And the new Richard Pryor? Marlon Wayans.

Eddie Murphy is Not Richard Pryor. Marlon Wayans Is.

8 October 2009 5:27 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

I have said time and time again that the one Wayans Brother that I give the most credit to is Marlon Wayans.  Sure, the guy likes to have some fun with the family now and then with movies like ‘White Chicks,’ but he can turn on the acting juices when they need to be turned on.  So, it doesn’t bother me in the least to read at HitFix that Wayans has replaced Eddie Murphy in a biopic on legendary comedian Richard Pryor’s life.

To be directed by ‘Dreamgirls’ director Bill Condon, the film, tentatively titled ‘Richard Pryor,’ is still a long way from seeing the light of day.  Most of the cast has yet to be filled, and, though Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison has come on board to produce, the film has evidently lost its distribution through Paramount and Fox Searchlight.  Chris Rock is also joining the project as a producer. »

Wayans To Play Richard Pryor

8 October 2009 3:48 AM, PDT | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Marlon Wayans is in advanced negotiations to play the iconic comedian Richard Pryor in the biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? . The film is being financed by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Prods. and Sony Pictures.

With a script already penned and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon attached at the helm it's a shame to hear that Eddie Murphy, whom Condon had directed so well in Dreamgirls, and who viewed Richard Pryor as one of his heroes and a major source of inspiration, is no longer going to play the part. Complications arose between Murphy and Paramount Pictures, who were previously on board to finance the film, and Murphy ended up dropping out.

The choice of Marlon Wayans might turn out to be a blessing in disguise. While the actor is primarily known for his comedic roles in movies like Dance Flick and White Chicks, he has also pulled off stunning performances, »

Marlon Wayans Is Richard Pryor

8 October 2009 12:36 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Earlier this year it seemed settled that Eddie Murphy would be playing his hero Richard Pryor, in Bill Condon's biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?. Now however, following disagreements with previous studio Paramount (it's now set up at Sony), it seems that Murphy is off the project, and Marlon Wayans is in "advanced talks" to step into his shoes. It's one of the great might-have-beens, and it seems tragic given Murphy's recent execrable form that he won't be reuniting with the director of Dreamgirls, his best role in years (although his current lowbrow niche almost unfailingly cleans up at the box office). Anyone for Norbit? Amazingly, yes. All is not lost though, since anyone who's seen Darren Aronofsky's Requiem For a Dream will know that Wayans is capable of much more than the Scary Movies and White Chicks (and indeed Norbit) he's been churning out in the last decade. »

"Dreamgirls" Director to Work on Adam Sandler's "Richard Pryor" Film!

7 October 2009 6:31 PM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Bill Condon, the director who gave us "Dreamgirls" and wrote "Chicago," is in talks with Columbia Pictures and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison to direct a film about Richard Pryor with Marlon Wayans in the starring role. The plan is for the film to go on production next spring.

The biopic, budgeted for $20 million, will be called "Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?" and Sandler will produce along with Jack Giarraputo, Chris Rock, Mark Gordon, and Jennifer Pryor.

No word yet on the supporting cast but sources are saying that Sandler is thinking of appearing in a cameo as Pryor's first manager, Sandy Gallin.

Once upon a time, Condon wanted his "Dreamgirls" star Eddie Murphy to star in his Pryor film when it was being developed at Weinstein Co. Then the director shopped it to Paramount and then Fox Searchlight but Murphy was so expensive.

Marlon Wayans to Star in Richard Pryor Biopic

7 October 2009 2:16 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Earlier this year we heard rumours that Dreamgirls director Bill Condon was in the process of shopping around [1] a Richard Pryor biopic, and that Eddie Murphy was loosely attached to star. At the time, a lot of people had doubts about seeing Murphy in the role, but I have a feeling there will be even more doubters now that Condon has decided to set the movie up with a different, slightly less expensive actor: Marlon Wayans. Variety [2] reports that Columbia Pictures and Happy Madison are currently finalizing a deal for Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? with Marlon Wayans in the lead role and the budget coming in under $20 million. Both Adam Sandler and Chris Rock are on board as producers, and word on the street is that Sandler may even make a cameo in the film as Richard Pryor's first manager, Sandy Gallin. Marlon Wayans May Star In A Richard Pryor Biopic

7 October 2009 10:35 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I love Richard Pryor so much that it's been hard for me to imagine anybody adequately portraying the legendary comedian/actor in the planned biopic "Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?" I certainly didn't think Eddie Murphy was right for the role when he was set to play the icon awhile back. Nor did I like the idea of Mike Epps as Pryor. But I surprised myself with a very positive reaction to today's news that Marlon Wayans may star as Pryor in the film, to be written and helmed by "Dreamgirls" director Bill Condon.

Say what you will about Wayans' movie career, especially the lowbrow stuff he's co-written with brothers Keenan and Shawn ("White Chicks;" the "Scary Movie" series). The guy has shown us that he can act (in one film -- "Requiem for a Dream" -- at least), and he is great at being funny solely through facial expressions, »

Wayans to play Pryor?

Comedy legend Richard Pryor may be played by no other than one of the White Chicks himself, Marlon Wayans. Originally Eddie Murphy was tapped to star as Pryor in the biopic but has dropped out due to conflicts with Paramount. Wayans apparently fought for the role, and wowed the producers in a 13 minute screen test where he "transformed into Pryor". Gender-bending actors: Who makes the cut?

2 September 2009 3:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

In honor of Liev Schreiber's turn in Taking Woodstock, The Huffington Post has its readers scoring various actors' and actresses' believability in roles of the opposite sex. As I'm typing this, Patrick Swayze, who gives my favorite drag performance in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, is averaging 7.4 out of 10, which ranks him sixth among the group of 24. The most successful stars: Cillian Murphy in 2005's Breakfast on Pluto (9.2), followed by Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry (8.7), Linda Hunt in The Year of Living Dangerously, (8.6), Jaye Davidson in The Crying Game (8.6), and Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There (7.7). Schreiber's averaging a 2.5, placing him behind Eddie Murphy in Norbit (4.0), John Travolta in Hairspray (3.8), Shawn and Marlon Wayans in White Chicks (3.5), and Martin Lawrence in Big Momma's House (2.7). I have not seen Taking Woodstock yet, but I'm guessing if Schreiber scored that low, he was not supposed to pass as a woman. »
