Last week, we saw the first trailer for the new James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace. As much as I hate, hate, hate the name of this movie, Bond has always had some silly titles, unless, of course, you can find a way to defend Octopussy.
The action and the angry 007 exemplified so wonderfully by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale really jumpstarted a franchise that had lost its way. It appears that the same elements will be around in Craig's second Bond movie, released a little earlier than its traditional November slot.
We've got our first British quad poster of the movie, courtesy of Imp Awards, although apparently it popped up on eBay first.
Classy. I like it.

It looks like Joss Whedon will be heading back to theaters soon. No, it won't be Buffy or Serenity, but rather a thriller he co-wrote called The Cabin in the Woods.
Variety reports that MGM has bought the script, which was co-written by the film's director, Drew Goddard. I know...it's a little bit of a letdown knowing Whedon won't be directing, but it's a little exciting that Goddard - a writing and producing vet of Buffy, Alias, and Lost - should finally get a chance to direct. Especially when you weigh in the fact that he wrote Cloverfield.
We don't know much about the story, but I think we take a guess. I mean, it's a thriller called The Cabin in the Woods. Probably won't be a nice, relaxing weekend in the country.
What we do know is that the film marks something of a milestone for MGM. One of the original major studios,

The first teaser trailer for Marc Forster’s upcoming James Bond adventure “Quantum of Solace” is online, and it certainly delivers the goods. As you can see above, the film promises plenty of wild pursuits, awesome stunts and hot chicks.
The story of “Quantum of Solace” is strongly tied to “Casino Royale,” and follows James Bond (Daniel Craig) on his quest to uncover the truth behind the betrayal of Vesper. Mathieu Amalric, Olga Kurylenko, Judi Dench and Jesper Christensen co-star. The film opens Nov. 7, 2008. What do you think? Doesn’t this teaser look fantastic?

I still think the name is too sci-fi for the new rough-around-the-edges James Bond, but Quantum of Solace will be here in November, and there's a brand new trailer for it today.
Usually, when it's s a movie like this that a lot of people are anxious to see, the first trailer doesn't reveal very much. This is the exception to that practice. Tons of action, it lets you know straight away what the story's about, and Daniel Craig still looks as pissed off as he was in Casino Royale.
I was a bit concerned up till now, and you always are when there's a next movie in a series like this after they turn a corner back to respectability. The last thing you want is something as good as Casino Royale diminished by a lackluster follow-up. But this trailer assuages those concerns. It looks less like a sequel and more like a continuation,

Hugh Grant's beloved film favourite Four Weddings And A Funeral has topped a new internet poll to find the best British movie of all time.
The 1994 film, which launched Grant's Hollywood career, topped the poll, closely followed by Monty Python's religious satire Life Of Brian.
The romantic comedy saw off competition from cult favourites such as Trainspotting and the Bond blockbuster Casino Royale, which were awarded third and fourth places respectively.
The top five was rounded out by Guy Ritchie's gangster directorial debut film Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Also in the film poll, conducted by Virgin Media, Sir Anthony Hopkins shared the title of Britain's favourite actor with Sir Sean Connery and Dame Judi Dench was given the gong for best actress.

James Bond star Daniel Craig is set to become a real-life 007 - he's to be made an honorary member of the British Royal Marines.
The movie hunk made his debut as Bond - an MI6 agent with a distinguished career in the Royal Navy - in 2006's Casino Royale.
And now Craig, 40, is being lined up to receive the prestigious Green Beret - if only he can find the time to complete and pass an endurance test.
A source at the Royal Marines training centre in Lympstone near Devon, England, says, "We were the ones who took Daniel to the press conference when he was revealed as the new James Bond.
"He was great - a really good guy - and he was very appreciative of our work. He supports the RNLI (Royal Navy Lifeboat Institution) and is very interested in the Royal Marine Commandos too.
"We're trying to get him down here to do one of the Commando tests so he can get his honorary Green Beret. It's just about trying to find the time. He's so busy."

Irish actor Pierce Brosnan almost rejected his role in movie-musical Mamma Mia! - because he feared looking silly in front of his James Bond replacement Daniel Craig.
Brosnan, 55, played 007 in four of the action series' films before turning over his role to Craig for 2006's Casino Royale.
And although Brosnan doesn't regret his decision to retire as James Bond, he admits he was scared his all-singing and dancing role as Sam Carmichael in the 1970s Abba-inspired film would be too far a departure from his days as the British spy.
He says, "I drew the drapes in my dressing room, looked in the mirror, and there was 007 - only he was getting ready to expose himself to possible ridicule by starring in a movie musical called Mamma Mia!
"One of my daydreams was that I'd be strutting across the parking lot in sequined tights and a cape, and I would bump into Mr. Daniel Craig, looking very Bond-like. It never happened, I'm pleased to say."

Leonardo DiCaprio is searching for the real James Bond - after signing on to produce a biopic of the superspy's creator, Ian Fleming.
The actor's Appian Way production company will delve into the fabled British writer's life in Fleming.
DiCaprio's production partner Andrew Lazar says, "The idea that this guy's life informed the James Bond character is pretty fascinating."
The film, based on Damian Stevenson's screenplay, will begin on the eve of Fleming's 1952 wedding in Jamaica - just before his first novel, Casino Royale, was published.
Flashbacks will show Fleming's pre-Bond life as a correspondent for news agency Reuters and as a naval intelligence expert during World War Two.
It is not known if DiCaprio will play any role in the film.

Mel Gibson has signed up to play a police investigator in Edge Of Darkness - his first feature film role since his arrest for drink driving in 2006.
The Braveheart star's last feature starring role was in 2002's Signs, but he has kept a low profile since hitting the headlines for using anti-Semitic language during a Dui arrest near his home in Malibu, California.
In the thriller, based on a 1985 BBC miniseries, Gibson, 42, will play a cop who uncovers corruption in the legal system while investigating the death of his activist daughter, reports Daily Variety.
Filming on the independently financed project, to be directed by Casino Royale filmmaker Martin Campbell, begins in Boston, Massachusetts in August.

Daniel Craig has defended the title of the next James Bond film, insisting the phrase Quantum Of Solace in integral to the plot. Fans were left scratching their heads about the film's over-complicated title when it was announced earlier this week, but the actor insists the 22nd installment of the super-spy franchise has the perfect name. The 39-year-old Brit says, "We could have gone for a snappier title, but that sort of suggests we're insecure about what we're trying to say. The statement is an (Bond creator) Ian Fleming statement. It comes from the idea that in a relationship, if you don't have a quantum of solace left in your relationship, then give up. Where Bond is left at the end of the last movie (2006's Casino Royale), his heart's been broken and he doesn't have that quantum of solace, he doesn't have that ... closure on what happened in his life and he needs to find out. What is great about it is it also applies to something very important in the plot." Quantum Of Solace has been taken from a collection of short stories which were published by Fleming in 1960.

It hardly sounds like the title of a 007 movie, but producers said Thursday that Quantum of Solace, which will be what the 22nd James Bond flick is to be called, actually comes from a 1960 short story by Bond creator Ian Fleming. The producers of the film also provided further details about it, including that it will pick up the story where Casino Royale left off and that, in addition to the U.K. (at Pinewood studios), it will be filmed in Austria, Italy and South America. The MGM film, to star Daniel Craig, is due to be released by Sony Pictures on Nov. 7.

Shia LaBeouf, Sienna Miller and Ellen Page have all been nominated for the Orange Rising Star award at the British Academy Film And Television Awards (BAFTAs) this year. The actors will compete against Sam Riley, star of Joy Division biopic Control and Lust Caution's Wei Tang for the prize, which seeks to recognize up-and-coming performers demonstrating "exceptional talent." The category was established in honor of late casting director Mary Selway, who died in 2004, with the inaugural honor going to Scottish actor James McAvoy. Casino Royale star Eva Green, who won the award last year, announced the nominees on Tuesday, saying, "This year's five nominees are all actors who have really stood out in their work and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of them throughout 2008." The honor is the only one of the BAFTAs voted for the public. The winner will be announced at the official ceremony on February 10.

A set of James Bond postage stamps commemorating the 100th anniversary of 007 author Ian Fleming's birth have been issued in the U.K. The six extra-long stamps feature a selection of original cover artwork from Bond novels including Dr. No, Casino Royale, Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and From Russia With Love. Actress Samantha Bond, who played Miss Moneypenny in the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies, launched the British Royal Mail stamps posing alongside an Aston Martin DB6, the secret agent's car of choice in the films Goldfinger, Thunderball and Goldeneye. She says, "Being involved with the Bond legend is always an adventure, and these new stamps are a wonderful start to this centenary year. James has always held a special place in my heart, and now he will set millions of other hearts fluttering around the world."
