As the first decade of the 21st century comes to a close, though, here's fodder for your New Year's Eve party: A list, in no particular order, of 10 movie developments from the past 10 years that have impressed, depressed, excited, upset,

Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry
List # 1
By Alex Simon
When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.
1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah.

Lindsay Lohan's festive celebrations were marred as her parents ended up in court over a child support battle. The "Mean Girls" star's mother Dina took her ex-husband Michael to court on December 23, accusing him of failing to pay $40,000 in child support.
The former husband and wife are parents to the 23-year-old actress, as well as her younger siblings Michael Jr., Aliana and Dakota. Dina claims her ex made a considerable sum of money after releasing taped private phone calls with Lindsay to the media in earlier 2009 - and wants him to hand over the payments he allegedly owes.
She tells the New York Post gossip column Page Six, "It is sad that the day before Christmas Eve, I was back in court with Michael over child support. He claims he's broke and can't pay - yet he drives around in a Mercedes and has a house in the Hamptons.

Rollergirls get the Hollywood treatment as Drew Barrymore makes her debut as a director… but Jessica Holland is the real thing
When I went this month to an advance screening of Whip It – a teen movie about a small-town girl who joins a roller derby league in Austin, Texas – it wasn't just because I wanted to see how Drew Barrymore measured up as a first-time director, and because I like Ellen Page, who stars in Juno. It was mostly because I got hooked on roller derby three years ago in the same way Page's character does in the film, and I wanted to see how the sport is to be presented to the world.
"Chicks beating each other up on roller skates" is the shorthand often used for women's flat track derby, but to me and 50 of my London Rollergirls teammates and rivals who were at the screening, that's about

Lindsay Lohan's festive celebrations were marred as her parents ended up in court over a child support battle.
The Mean Girls star's mother Dina took her ex-husband Michael to court on 23 December, accusing him of failing to pay $40,000 (£25,000) in child support.
The former husband and wife are parents to the 23-year-old actress, as well as her younger siblings Michael Jr., Aliana and Dakota.
Dina claims her ex made a considerable sum of money after releasing taped private phone calls with Lindsay to the media earlier this year - and wants him to hand over the payments he allegedly owes.

"He got paid for selling tape recordings of private conversations relating to Lindsay, but he won't pay for his children."
But the Lohan matriarch is determined to remain optimistic as she rings in the New Year with her kids.
She adds, "A lot has happened, but we'll end the year on a positive note. We always have a big celebration, we always invite all manner of strays and friends to join in."

Even a Master Sleuth Couldn't Untangle 'Sherlock Holmes'

Boasting enough slow-motion action to please even Watchmen’s Zack Snyder, this is not your English teacher’s Sherlock Holmes. Director Guy Ritchie honed his high-energy approach to the British crime genre with the excellent Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and he brings that aesthetic to this adventure starring literature’s most famous detective (sorry, Nancy Drew). But despite its top-caliber cast and talented director, Sherlock Holmes is a mess that even the master sleuth couldn’t untangle.
Sherlock Holmes gets off to a fast and furious start, barreling right into the action. With the help of the ever steadfast Dr. John Watson (Jude Law), Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) captures multiple murderer Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong, Body of Lies). Though the black-magic-loving aristocrat is hanged for his crimes, he soon resurfaces, much to the surprise of Watson, who, embarrassingly, pronounced the man dead.

Lohan's Dad Fights Twitter Impostors

Michael Lohan has signed up to social networking site Twitter.com in a bid to fight internet fakes posing as Lindsay Lohan's outspoken father.
The showbiz dad, whose strained relationship with the Mean Girls star is regularly played out in the press, insists he's fed up with impostors pretending to be him on the site - on which users can post minute-by-minute updates on their thoughts and whereabouts.
Just last month, the patriarch lashed out at a poser who posted cryptic messages alleging he was suicidal.
Lohan created his first account on Sunday after his lawyer suggested joining the celebrity trend would be the best way to tackle online hoaxers.
And he intends to identify his Twitter impostors and take legal action against them.
In his first tweet, the born-again Christian has posted an image of himself holding up a sign with his name on to confirm the validity of the account.
He writes: "This is the Real Michael Lohan - all others who pretend to be me are frauds. Upon my attorney's advice, I have opened this account."
In another post directed at another Twitter user sharing his name, Lohan writes: "Don't know who you are but my attorneys and Twitter will find out. You're looking at civil and criminal charges shortly."
