Even the worst of problems can be overcome with help from a higher power.

The presentation is done in a very touching way. It does not at all minimize the sacrifice needed to overcome an addiction. But it does give hope that rewards can come from refocusing your life, and submitting to a power higher than yourself.

Nice opening sequence, but...

Warning: Spoilers
This movie scarred me for a long time, setting up the precedent that mothers simply die, no warning, no nothing. For years and years afterward I felt so deathly responsible if my mother napped longer than 30 minutes. The movie is presented as uplifting and inspiring, and I can see those points in it, but the insidious messages go unaddressed - Mothers die from overwork, alcoholics are nice.

Avoid at all costs. Well, the opening with the young woman walking across BYU campus in preparation of her impending graduation is fun and very sincere in its 70-ness, though. Kitschy in a cute way.

It is great fodder for quotes, however. "Leave it alone Ben! Leave it ALONE!" Anyone who's seen the film will know just how that line should be said and inflected!
