This was one of two TV versions made in the same year (2003) of the old Cocteau warhorse and the best we can give it is that is has three of the best French actors on board in the shape of Jeanne Moreau, Nicole Garcia and Francois Berleand. I suppose it's not too difficult to see the attraction in this story of a mother's incestuous love for a son who in turn is in love with a girl who, unknown to him, is his father's mistress and let's not forget the faithful Aunt, once herself in love with the father yet standing nobly aside in favour of her sister. The three actors named are more than up to snuff and the claustrophobic atmosphere is well captured but ultimately the film has nothing new to add to previous versions.
