According to longtime media executive Fred Seibert, former head of Hanna-Barbera and current head of Frederator films, Genndy Tartakovsky’s popular animated show, Samurai Jack, is headed to the big screen with J.J. Abrams as a co-producer. The film, which is budgeted at $20 million, will combine traditional 2D animation with stereoscopic 3D. It is being produced by Fredarator Films and Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot Productions.
For those that don’t recall the show, Samurai Jack was a four-time Emmy award winning animated series that ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004. Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, who was also the genius behind Dexter’s Laboratory and Star Wars: Clone Wars, Samurai Jack revolved around, well…a samurai named Jack. Jack was a noble warrior who is cast into the future by the evil Aku, “the shape-shifting Master of Darkness.” Each episode involved Jack’s attempts to return to the past to

Are you ready for a massive list of must-view DVD titles from the last two weeks? Good, let's go!
F. Javier Gutiérrez's apocalyptic Before the Fall (amazon), about a small town in the south of Spain that finds out they have 72 hours before a meteorite destroys the earth. Our Cali correspondent Hal got a chance to see the film and called it a "good exploration of how much we should protect innocence," and I can't wait to finally check it out.
Another film that's been around for a while, but is only now hitting DVD is Dead Air (amazon). About a douchey radio dj who has to deal with a virus outbreak, the film sounds a lot like Pontypool, but I imagine it is far more literal minded.
On the TV front we've got a couple sets worth looking at. The bloody, bestselling Afro Samurai: Complete Murder Sessions

I haven't had time for a lot of TV. I'm still woefully behind on films. But I did manage to catch something that made me very happy.
The biggest delight of the new fall season has been Eastwick, the ABC TV show based on The Witches of Eastwick, a novel by John Updike and a film by George Miller. It's the story of three women who are unhappy in their lives brought together by a wish to fulfill their most secret desires. Their wishes begin to come true with the arrival of the mysterious and wealthy Darryl Van Horn, someone who may not be of this Earth.
The series brings the talented and gorgeous Paul Gross back to American TV. Like many women and some men, I fell madly in love with him as Constable Benton Fraser in due South. Gross managed to be very charming and sexy playing a wide-eyes innocent,

Star Wars: A Live-Action Series Coming Soon?

Do we still have some rabid Star Wars fans out there? Semi-rabid? Tepid? I know Niall is, as shown when he first talked about a live-action Star Wars show back in March.
If you’re an animation fan, you’ve probably been watching the animated series on Cartoon Network titled Star Wars: Clone Wars that was airing on Friday nights.
Now, “inside sources” are stating that a live action Star Wars series will start shooting soon.
The interesting angle on this is that they’re using Australian-based talent to pump out what they consider to be scripts of the highest quality. They’re also going outside the Sci-Fi industry to find their writers.
They’ve approached writers from award winning shows down under like Love My Way and Secret Life of Us. The idea is to aim the writing towards the style of those shows, which focuses on relationships between the characters.

The Oscars attempt (emphasis on the word, “attempt”) to recognize cinemas greatest achievements each year. The Razzies, on the other hand, recognize cinema’s greatest underachievements each year.
After seeing the nominees for this year’s Razzie Awards, I’m beginning to think that the Razzie judges need to be given jobs on the Oscar selection committee. Maybe then the Oscar noms would be a little bit more spot-on.
Here are the 2008 Razzie Award nominees for your viewing displeasure.
Worst Picture
Disaster Movie & Meet The Spartans (Two bad movies, one tired-ass concept)
The Happening (Ouch, M. Night that’s gotta hurt!)
The Hottie and The Nottie
In The Name of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
The Love Guru (Like no one saw that one coming.)
Worst Actor
Larry The Cable Guy, Witless Protection
Eddie Murphy, Meet Dave
Mike Myers, The Love Guru
Al Pacino, 88 Minutes & Righteous Kill (double ouch!

Dakota Fanning as a blood-sucking, elitist vampire who inflicts panic on people three times her size?
Ok, I'll bite. (See what I did there? Bite. Vampires. Ok, fine. Moving on.)
E! News reports that the fully adolescent Fanning — she's almost 15! — is in talks to star opposite Robert Pattinson's hair in the upcoming Twilight movie sequel, New Moon. Fanning is being offered the role of prized Volturi guard, Jane.
"There were no auditions," a source told E!. "They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth."
In the book, Jane's physical appearance is a bit androgynous. She has short, pale brown hair and an angelic face with full lips and crimson eyes. (So, you know, sinister.) Also, she's full of torture.
Twilight hit theaters on Nov. 21 last year, sliding into the spot left open when Warner Brothers' executives pushed
