Amusing but quite pointless

On Christmas Eve a group of men are in their local, the Earl of Essex when a new face comes in. Claiming to be Jesus he receives a cold welcome but when he starts to change water to wine and heal the blind he hopes to win them over. However much has changed in 2000 years and reverence is just one of those things.

The concept sounds quite interesting on paper and could have been a look at how things have changed and how the modern guy on the street would react to Jesus' low-key return, even if he could prove it! However this fails to make any strong, valid points about this and instead is amusing with a slight hint of a serious point behind it. The acting is good and the direction is OK but the story needed more work - either to be funnier or to be more thought-provoking, the way it is it falls unsatisfyingly between two stools.

The cast are believably louts in a pub, but Power's Jesus is a little too dry and passive in the situation. He was not all love and peace when people took the mickey in the bible so I doubted his realism here.

Overall this is so very short that it is worth a look if you happen across it, however if you're hoping for a comedy or for something to make you think then this is not it. Sadly it tries to do both and fails to do either well.
