Sex & Nudity

  • A corrupt lord tries to force himself onto a woman, but she initially refuses. He then bribes her with jewelry and they begin kissing passionately, however they are interrupted.(woman nude breast shown).
  • A woman is shown bathing. Her breasts are shown and then her entire back including buttocks are shown as she rises from the tub and gets dressed.
  • A woman kisses a married man to distract him but only succeeds in angering him.
  • A corrupt friar looks at illustrated pornographic imagery in a secret book. Sexual positions including fellatio, sodomy, and three-way sex are shown.

Violence & Gore

  • A man's head is bashed into a pillar until his skull is crushed. Then his lover is slashed to death. His guards are then shown lying dead in pools of blood nearby.
  • The sheriff chases after several men on horseback and manages to push several off before he himself is thrown off of his horse.
  • The sheriff is attacked in the library and is beaten down by an attacker until the library is set on fire.
  • The sheriff engages in a sword fight until a masked man arrives and the two duel. The masked man sends the sheriff to the groud and cuts his chin with his sword, letting him off with a warning.
  • The film centers around the Inquisition, and there are many instance of "heretics" being beaten and killed in the marketplace.
  • The ending is very bloody, with many people getting killed. A man is strangled with chains before being stabbed in the back of the neck with a red hot poker. Another man gets his face forced into a fountain until he drowns. A man is beaten to death on the steps of the cathedral with clubs. Another man gets a wooden spike pounded into his throat. Blood spurts from his mouth.
  • A woman is tortured by the corrupt friars by being racked and then burned with a red hot brand. She eventually dies after being tortured too much. The sound of breaking bones is heard.

Profanity

  • Very mild language involving a single use of "My God," and a single use of "hell."
  • The film deals with the inquisition, and as such the entire Christian hierarchy is painted in an unflattering way. No Christian in this film is shown in any redeeming factors which may disturb certain viewers.
  • A man tests a Jew by asking him to eat pork. The jew reluctantly tries to do such in order to protect himself but the man stops him.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The sheriff is a known alcoholic and frequently visits the bar during the beginning, but not much else in the film.
  • Two men drink wine.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The entire tone of the film is disturbing, focusing on Religious persecution, and denying one's faith to stay alive.
  • The ending can be very depressing for some viewers.

Violence & Gore

  • A man's wife is being tortured due to her husband's Jewish background. Her husband arrives and rescues her by slitting the torturer's throat. Blood spurts from the wound. She then flees but slips down the steps and breaks her neck. The sound of crunching bones is heard.
  • The villain is killed by being stabbed in the eyes with his own knife. Blood spurts all over his face.

Profanity

  • The ending of the film focuses on Jews living a double life in order to protect themselves by being Christians in public, but worshiping as Jews in private.
