Paul Greengrass is Done with Bourne, Now What?

3 December 2009 3:09 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Rumors had been swirling since late last week, and this week Variety has confirmed that director Paul Greengrass is leaving the Bourne franchise. In the confirmation, the studio (Universal) released the following statement from the director: "I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I'm very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There's been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I've been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and »

Paul Greengrass quits Bourne 4

1 December 2009 12:10 AM, PST | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

The slow development of the fourth Jason Bourne flick took another hit today as director Paul Greengrass - a man as intricately linked to the films as star Matt Damon himself - walked out on the project in a row over the script. Details are still sketchy, but it would appear that Greengrass wasn't happy when Universal brought in up-and-coming writer Josh Zetumer to work on a 'parallel' screenplay for the film, rewriting the one already penned by Ocean's 12's George Nolfi. Greengrass has already been under pressure from...

Paul Greengrass Leaves 'Bourne 4'

30 November 2009 11:56 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

It seems that Jason Bourne will not return to the big screen as soon as it was expected. After the film's star Matt Damon informed that he was working on the script with director Paul Greengrass, the helmer has reportedly quit the untitled Bourne 4 project more than a week ago.

According to Playlist, Greengrass was not happy that Universal Pictures hired Joshua Zetumer to write what they call a "parallel" script without consulting it to him before. The "Ocean's Twelve" scribe George Nolfi was originally hired to pen the screenplay for this fourth "Bourne" film, but apparently no one liked his work.

On the other hand, the studio was getting frustrated with Greengrass' upcoming thriller "Green Zone", which costs almost $150 million. "Greengrass has reshot several times (gets expensive) and has been tinkering away in the editing room for months spending Universal's money and testing their patience," a source told the site. »

Pics, Travis Barker Attending DJ Am's Funeral Service in L.A.

2 September 2009 8:28 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

DJ Am, who was found dead in his New York City apartment on August 28, has been laid to rest on Wednesday, September 2. The celebrity deejay's friend, Travis Barker, was seen attending the private funeral service, donning a stripped outfit matched with sunglasses.

At about 3:00 P.M., Barker along with Am's friends and family began to congregate at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles for a funeral service honoring the deejay, whose real name is Adam Goldstein. Seen among the guests were DJ Jazzy Jeff and "Ocean's Twelve" actor Scott Caan.

Then, at around 4:00 P.M., the service, which was held in the mortuary, moved outside. Later, the procession was continued with some cars followed by the hearse to the back of one of L.A.'s most prominent Jewish cemeteries for the somber burial.

On the same day, it was also announced that a memorial for »

Anthony Mackie Goes From The Hurt Locker to The Adjustment Bureau

18 August 2009 1:30 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Anthony Mackie has been a reliably solid supporting actor in the last couple of years; he's wonderful in The Hurt Locker and was entertaining as Tupac Shakur in the often woeful Notorious. Now he'll have a chance to continue that run in The Adjustment Bureau, the adaptation of a Philip K. Dick short story starring Matt Damon. George Nolfi (Ocean's 12, Bourne Ultimatum co-writer) wrote the script and will direct, with Damon starring as David Norris, "a smooth-talking congressman whose political future is thrown in doubt by uncontrollable events and the arrival in his life of a mysterious ballerina." Emily Blunt plays the ballerina, and we don't yet know what role Mackie will take. Dick's original short story is called The Adjustment Team, and was originally published in 1954. It's been a long time since I read the tale, so I'll defer to Wikipedia's summary until I can dig up my »

Emily Blunt To Star Opposite Matt Damon In The Adjustment Bureau

14 July 2009 5:30 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Emily Blunt will star alongside Matt Damon in the upcoming silver-screen realisation of the Philip K. Dick sci-fi short story called The Adjustment Team, here upgraded to The Adjustment Bureau. It will be the first film directed by George Nolfi, who is rather more practiced as a screenwriter. He's written for several other Damon projects, such as The Bourne Ultimatum, the as un-titled fourth Jason Bourne film and Ocean's Twelve, and he's adapted Dick's story into the screenplay for this one too. You'd guess he likes the way Damon gives a line reading. The Adjustment Bureau is about an up-and-coming congressman, played by Damon, who meets a beautiful ballet dancer, to be played by Blunt, only to find they are being mysteriously kept apart. I revealed before that the plot ends up sharing certain similarities with a modern classic of sci-fi cinema, but I'm »

Emily Blunt and Matt Damon Starring in a Philip K. Dick Movie

14 July 2009 1:10 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

That headline may be just a bit misleading. The project is titled The Adjustment Bureau and is a sci-fi love story based on the Philip K. Dick short story titled "Adjustment Team" (found in this collection). THR announces that Emily Blunt will star opposite Matt Damon in the film, which is being written and directed by screenwriter George Nolfi (Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum). Universal is developing the project with Media Rights Capital. It sounds like this will be going into production soon and be the next project for both Blunt and Damon, however, no start date was announced in the THR article. "Adjustment Team," first published in 1954, has similarities to Alex Proyas' Dark City. Ed Fletcher, a real estates salesman, finds out that our world is really one big soundstage controlled by strange and mysterious guardians. Nolfi's version follows a congressman (Damon) instead, on the rise »

Jared Harris Discusses The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

1 May 2009 1:31 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The actor talks about his role in the film, working with Brad Pitt and David Fincher, Fringe and more

Jared Harris has the acting bug in his genes, but that doesn't mean he didn't forge his way through the biz on his own. Jared, the son of legendary actor Richard Harris, became first known for his portrayal of Andy Warhol in the 1996 indie I Shot Andy Warhol, which lead to a spate of work throughout the 90s that lead to bigger studio films like roles in Mr. Deeds, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Ocean's Twelve and Lady In the Water. Harris' latest role was in the Best Picture nominee The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which will be released on DVD, a very rare new-release Criterion Collection two-disc DVD and Criterion Collecton Blu-ray on May 5. I had the chance to speak with Harris, who portrayed Captain Mike in the film, over the phone, »

Soderbergh Raves About 'Avatar'

29 April 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

James Cameron's forthcoming film Avatar is becoming a phenomenon before it's even been released. More than 12 years after Titanic — itself a landmark film in scope, grandeur and visual effects — Cameron appears poised, by all accounts, to have upped the ante yet again, fashioning a film that those with intimate knowledge of the project tout as remarkable.

After Titanic, Cameron was quite emphatic that he wanted to wait for technology to get advanced enough in order for him to tackle a new project. That project is Avatar, a science fiction film with a budget of over $200M, scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18. And while we haven't yet seen a trailer for Avatar (sorry Wolverine fans), those who have seen early footage from the film have been suitably impressed.

And that includes Steven Soderbergh. In a recent interview with ComingSoon, the Ocean's Twelve and Solaris director commented on some footage he'd seen, »

'Bourne 4' Eyes Summer 2011 Release

13 April 2009 2:20 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

An update to another installment of "Bourne" films, "Untitled Bourne 4 Project", has been brought forth by producer Frank Marshall. Posting a message on his Twitter page, the five-time Academy Award-nominated producer revealed that the fourth sequel of "Bourne" series is in the work for a possible summer 2011 release.

In his announcement, he first wrote, "Bourne4 is in the works for Summer 2111." Quickly realizing the mistyping he did, he then added another post which read, "Yes, alittle too fast on the typing, it's 2011. And I wonder if anyone knows who else was born in Nixa, Missouri?" He furthermore confirmed that "Ocean's Twelve" writer George Nolfi will indeed pen the script and is expected to finish the draft by June.

"Bourne 4" will be the latest "Bourne" movie made after "The Bourne Ultimatum". While earlier it was suggested that the story may be based on Robert Ludlum's "The Parsifal Mosaic", it has »

Frank Marshall Says Bourne 4 Will Hit in Summer of 2011

12 April 2009 10:20 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

So it looks like Twitter really is becoming a good resource for updates. Producer Frank Marshall wrote a few updates on his Twitter (twitter.com/LeDoctor) recently related to Bourne 4, the in-development fourth sequel in the Jason Bourne series. "Bourne 4 is in the works for Summer 2011," Marshall wrote. He later added in another update that "George Nolfi is the writer of Bourne 4, [and he] should have a draft by June," mentioning that, "it really takes long to get these scripts right!" Of course! And especially on something like this, I'm more than happy that Marshall is taking as much time as he needs and not rushing into it. Our last update on Bourne 4 hit in October, when it was officially confirmed that George Nolfi (of Ocean's Twelve, The Sentinel, The Bourne Ultimatum) was writing the script and that Paul Greengrass was back on board to direct. 'Bourne 4' Targets Summer 2011 Release

Marshall confirmed that Ocean's Twelve writer George Nolfi will indeed pen the script and is expected to finish the draft by June.

Bourne 4 will chronologically follow The Bourne Ultimatum. While earlier it was suggested that the story may be based on Robert Ludlum's "The Parsifal Mosaic", it has been noted that the latter could be developed into another movie by Universal Pictures.

Matt Damon is expected to reprise his role as Jason Bourne, though »

Providing an update to another installment of "Bourne" films, Matt Damon has come up with a confirmation that a fourth "Bourne" movie is indeed in development. The Academy Award-recipient gushed on the "Untitled Bourne 4 Project" matter in the interview with Parade Magazine.

Asked whether his return to play Jason Bourne for a fourth time has been made official, Damon responded, "We're working on it." Explaining more on the project, he said, "This time it would be from an original script rather than a book by Robert Ludlum. But the director, Paul Greengrass, is busy and I am too, so we'll see what happens."

On whether or not he is ready to reprise his role, he stated that age will be his biggest obstacle. "Listen, when I did the first movie, I was 29 years old. I am 37 now," the star of "The Departed" confessed, "and after a tough fighting scene, the »
