Preview: Brothers

22 hours ago | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

About ten years ago, three promising young actors were working to secure a place amongst the Hollywood A-list. Natalie Portman had finished her first major acting role, as Mathilda in Luc Bessons Leon. She would go on to make her major breakthrough in the Star Wars prequels. Tobey Maguire had small roles in respected films like The Cider House Rules and Wonder Boys, then also got his major break in a high budget franchise, winning the role of Spiderman. Jake Gyllenhaal came to public attention through his role in sleeper Indie hit Donnie Darko, then hit the big time through a combination of big budget popcorn in The Day After Tomorrow, and critically acclaimed drama in Brokeback Mountain. Next week in the Us, these three actors, firmly A-List, come together for Jim Sheridan’s brothers.

Brothers is a remake of Susanne Bier’s Danish film Brodre. Tobey Maguire plays Captain Sam Cahill, »

19 November 2009 12:49 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Brad Pitt has rarely dipped his toe into the world of Science-Fiction.  Sure, he appeared in Terry Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys," but that's about it.  Instead he's had fun in period epics like "Troy" or the occasional drama with fantastical elements like "Meet Joe Black" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."  Now, Pitt may be teasing his fans by developing a big screen version of the upcoming Capcom video game "Dark Void."  Will he actually star in it? According to Variety, the video game centers on a pilot on a routine mission who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle.  When... »

Brian Cox Up For Dwarf Role In 'The Hobbit'?

16 November 2009 8:32 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

From Movies Blog: File this one under "here's hoping." Brian Cox is a gifted performer. One of those actors whose mere presence is enough to elevate a movie. "Troy" wasn't that great, but Cox helped make it bearable as Agamemnon. And his roles in "X2: X-Men United" and "Super Troopers" -- already fine films -- are unforgettable, career highlights without question. Also don't forget: Cox was the first person to fill the role of man-eater Hannibal Lecter (spelled Lecktor back then), in Michael Mann's "Manhunter."

Now the word is that Cox is up for one of the dwarves in director Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of "The Hobbit." The news comes from AICN, with Cox being described as a "major contender." The report is clear to state that there's no way of knowing right now if the role is cast or if the producers are just looking at the veteran actor, »

New Angelina Jolie Photo Refutes Claims She's Under 100 Pounds

16 November 2009 8:25 AM, PST | TheImproper.com | See recent TheImproper.com news »

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attended a private art viewing at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles on Nov. 14. Jolie looked stunning in a strapless Armani Privé gown while Pitt rocked a dashing Tom Ford tuxedo. While the svelte 5'7" beauty looked slim, she looked nothing like the emaciated anorexic whose weight is rumored to have plummeted below 100 pounds. Pitt, who flaunted a rippling six-pack in the epic drama Troy (2004) and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005), has reportedly cut back on his workouts. Meanwhile, Jolie--who bounced back into killer shape after both her pregnancies (in 2005 and 2007)--reportedly stays in shape by doing Pilates on a Nintendo Wii console and following a healthy, low-calorie diet. Angelina and Brad also have a high-tech gym at Chateau Miraval, their estate in the South of France. »

The Hobbit Casting Rumors

15 November 2009 9:39 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In their most recent edition of AICN-Downunder, Ain’t It Cool News included a small item which could be potentially big news for Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson’s upcoming films based on The Hobbit.

A project that’s been in development for a while and eagerly anticipated by a massive crowd of fans and moviegoers alike, The Hobbit has been engulfed in rumors when it comes to casting. So on that note, we have another possible rumor in the form of actor Brian Cox (X-Men 2, Troy, The Bourne Identity) being looked at by the producers as one of the thirteen dwarves in the adaptation.

This news comes on the heels of the John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from Lord of the Rings trilogy) interview with Empire where the talented actor flat out said he won’t be back to play the role of another dwarf, possibly Gimli’s father Gloin. »

With filming expected to begin in around 4 months it’s about time we got some casting news for The Hobbit, even if it just a rumour. According to an AICN scooper Brian Cox (X-Men 2, Troy) is apparently being considered to play one of the 13 dwarves that appear in the film. The scooper says [...] »

'Community' recap: What was that?

6 November 2009 4:58 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

There are off nights, and then there is last night's episode of Community. After being spoiled by two consecutive weeks of dynamite comedy, I sat there wondering whether I was watching the same show. Yesterday's episode was the equivalent of a bologna sandwich that had been left outside in the scorching sun for two-and-a-half weeks and then still deemed suitable to consume. Even Homer Simpson would have turned it down. I have no doubt that Community will rebound from this, and that last night's show, "Home Economics," will be remembered as merely a peculiar gaffe in an otherwise consistently engaging series. »

Get Smithers Laid! New Competition for AfterElton Readers

27 October 2009 5:53 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

The show has always had gay representation.

The Simpsons has been creating a memorable supporting cast for more than 20 years. We’ve seen characters come for a visit, like Grady (Scott Thompson), and we’ve seen them come and go and come back, like Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer).

Grady and Julio were once Homer's roommates.

Some, like Grady, have been gay, and others like Sideshow Bob have been (inexplicably) straight. On the whole, the show’s been pretty good for gay representation over the years.

Marge’s sister, Patty Bouvier is a lesbian. She’s dated different men on the show before coming out, including Principal Skinner, while also flirting with Edna Krabappel. She had an affair with a female professional golfer. Well, she thought the golfer was female, even if it turned out differently in the end.

Patty had what she thought was a lesbian relationship with Veronica. »

The 'Unknown White Male' Nabs Diane Kruger and January Jones

26 October 2009 1:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If I told you the next Dark Castle horror-thriller flick would star January Jones and Diane Kruger, you'd probably be interested. If I told you that the most recent Dark Castle horror flicks were Whiteout, Orphan, and Return to House on Haunted Hill ... you'd probably be a little less interested. But with the presence of two stunning blondes (and a half-decent concept), Dark Castle's Unknown White Male is starting to sound a little intriguing.

According to Variety, Ms. Jones and Ms. Kruger will join the very busy (and very lucky) Liam Neeson in Unknown White Male, which "centers on a man who awakens from a coma to find that someone else has assumed his identity, and no one, including his wife, believes him." The director is Jaume Collet-Serra, whom the horror freaks may remember from (Dark Castle) flicks like Orphan and House of Wax. The stunning Diane Kruger is best-known for her work in Troy, »

Betty Draper And Bridget Von Hammersmark: Together At Last

26 October 2009 7:55 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Five years ago, there is no way you would have been able to tell January Jones and Diane Kruger apart just by looking at their photos. Jones had a big part in American Wedding, of course, and Kruger was the most beautiful woman in history in Troy, but come one. They're both unbelievably gorgeous blondes with blue eyes who, until recently, were more likely to play eye candy than characters with real substance. But in 2009, of course, Jones and Kruger are Betty Draper and Bridget von Hammersmark, respectively, which means seeing the two of them together in a movie will be a real treat. Variety reports that they'll play two of the women in Liam Neeson's life as he tracks down an identity thief in Unknown White Male (yes, Neeson seems to be attempting to single-handedly rid the world of bad guys with every new film role he takes »

News: Blood Oath's Editing Surprises and Premiere Announcement

25 October 2009 8:56 AM, PDT | doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news »

D.L. Warner updates doorQ.com on the latest progression of her hot new webseries Blood Oath, a gay take on yaoi and anime, premiering shortly, everywhere. No, I don't mean discovering that Jon has changed my brutal mutant soldiers into ballet dancers. These surprises are about subtlety in the performances that pare very pleasing to someone looking for her characters to come to life. There was a lot I saw live and on the monitors dureing that made me happy during the Blood Oath shoots themselves, but it's hard to see everything.   Throughout the fight scene I was watching to make sure that Goggles(Aaron Blake or Brian Avery) didn't lose his red scarf or that Vincent's (Matty Ferraro) ponytail didn't unravel or Rik's (Lance Wesley) military patches stayed in place. There weren't a lot of moments when I could focus on the facial expressions that happened during the fight scene. »

'The Boondock Saints II': A cult hit gets a second shot

22 October 2009 6:00 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

As writer-director Troy Duffy recalls it, the cast and crew of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day were more than a tad nervous when they began work on their Boston-set, vigilante-action sequel. “Everybody was terrified to be the guy that screwed it up,” he says of the Toronto shoot for his movie, which is released October 30. “They knew the fans would find out where they lived and burn their f—-ing house to the ground." If you've never heard of Troy Duffy or his films you’re not alone. The Boondock Saints, a violent slice of Tarantino-esque Irishsploitation, was »

Bruce Willis Confirmed in Kane & Lynch, Hitman 2 Update

21 October 2009 8:55 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

It’s been a while since we heard anything on the videogame movie “Kane & Lynch” (over a year now, in fact), but according to producer Adrian Askarieh, Bruce Willis has indeed signed on to play Kane, with casting for the pivotal Lynch character still in the works. Also, they’ve nailed down a director in former second unit man Simon Crane, who has done work on “Troy” and “Tomb Raider”. According to Askarieh, it was easy to get Willis, since the “Die Hard” star called the “Kane & Lynch” script written by Kyle Ward (who is also penning “Hitman 2″) one of the best action scripts he’s ever read. Major kudos, considering that, well, Willis once read the script for “Die Hard”, and some consider that the best action movie ever made. For the gamers out there, the movie won’t exactly follow the game, but will maintain the basic premise. »

The Top 10 Most Influential Scores of the Past Decade: #1

7 October 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | SCOREcastOnline.com | See recent SCOREcastOnline.com news »

#1 - Gladiator

(Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard)

There has been much heated discussion this week about whether Hans Zimmer can really be called an "influential" composer, but the proof seems to be in the pudding: Zimmer's output from 1999 until now is impressive, and includes first class film scores for thirteen of the highest grossing films of the past decade. It only seems fitting that he would take our #1 spot, and that SCOREcast readers would vote his score, co-written with Lisa Gerrard, to Ridley Scott's epic masterpiece Gladiator as the number one most influential score of the past decade.

But before we get into the analysis of why Gladiator took the top spot on our countdown, let's recap how we got to this point, starting with the beginning of the Top 10 list (click on any title to read SCOREcast analysis from each score, and comments from the SCOREcast readership): »

Halloween Creep Launches Film Company

21 September 2009 6:36 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The man behind the mask of director Rob Zombie's Halloween ghoul Michael Meyers has formed his own horror film production company.

Tyler Mane has launched Mane Entertainment, LLC and hopes to start shooting his first project, the horror thriller Penance Lane, in 2010.

The actor, who has also appeared in Troy and X-Men, insists his films will be super-low budget.

He tells WENN, "Right now you have to go smaller to get bigger. I think we, as filmmakers, need to be more responsible in this rough economic period, and mitigate the financial risk of making films.

"Indie films are taking a beating. I firmly believe that some of the best, most creative films are done on a smaller budget. If you're absolutely committed to getting a high quality project, it forces you to think outside the box and make the best use of your resources." »

Concept Art from Orlando Bloom’s New Thriller ‘The Cross’

17 September 2009 1:38 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Andrew Niccol (writer/director of Gattaca) takes us into an oppressive future once again with The Cross. The film follows two travelers (one played by Orlando Bloom) that reach a border through which the commanding guard (Vincent Cassel) lets no one pass. Ever. Conflict, of course, ensues.

Jean-Vincent Puzos (production desginer on this film and 10,000 BC) has created the following concept images for the future world of The Cross:

.

Niccol got an Oscar nomination for writing The Truman Show and Bloom seems to like blockbusters (see: Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, Troy).  Between the two of them, the film could be both good and very profitable.  Vincent Cassel showed playfulness in Ocean’s Twelve and a deadly serious side in films like Derailed and Eastern Promises. John Goodman also appears in The Cross - and speaking of Lotr who hasn’t longed for the return of King Ralph? »
