Two New Images From Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

22 December 2009 9:36 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Two new images have hit the net for Disney’s big screen adaptation of the popular video game series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as damsel in distress, Tamina and Ben Kingsley as the evil sorcerer Nizam, the film is directed by Mike Newell.

The images, one of which is Gyllenhaal in full body armour, the other featuring him and Gemma Arterton, come to us courtesy of Fantasy.fr. Personally I’m still unsure as to whether Disney can pull this one off, but then again I felt the same about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and look how cool that turned out. Check out the images below:

Exclusive Audio Interview with Music Maestro Hans Zimmer on Sherlock Holmes & Much More!

15 December 2009 4:58 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Today, HeyUGuys was able to interview a true legend when it comes to movies. Examples of films he has scored include True Romance, Thelma & Louise, Black Hawk Down, more recently the likes of GladiatorPirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and his latest being that of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. On his first ever assignment for HeyUGuys, Adam Farina was given over 30 minutes to talk with the composing icon and you can listen to the full interview audio below.

Points that might be worth taking note are that of the ‘projects’ he and Nolan are currently looking at collaborating on. It has to be the Dark Knight follow-up doesn’t it?! Or is it just Inception which they are both currently working on?

Take it away Adam…..

British actress Keira Knightley reportedly has shed off her clothes in the name of art. According to reports, the Cecilia Tallis of "Atonement" has been secretly visiting London's Halcyon Gallery to be painted in the nude by the highly-regarded artist Mitch Griffiths.

"It's considered a great honor to be painted by Mitch. He is a highly respected nude painter and is painting as number of subjects for a new exhibition next year," an insider revealed. "He is delighted Keira decided to take part."

Keira Knightley herself will be seen portraying Lillian Palmer in "London Boulevard", a movie about a South London criminal who tries to give up the gangster life by becoming a handyman for a reclusive young actress. She will star opposite Colin Farrell, Ray Winstone, and Stephen Graham.

Recently, the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" actress was also reported to land a role »

Decade in Review: 2003 Top Ten

8 December 2009 6:30 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As you may have noticed, I will not be done with my Decade in Review until sometime into the new year. Hopefully we'll wrap up shortly after the Oscars; You know how distractingly all-consuming the Oscars can be! I hope you'll stay with it even though the rest of the media will move on any second now. They're always in such a rush. No stopping and smelling of the flowers. I've still got to update that "Actors of the Aughts" project for final compilation/statement. For now, let's move on to 2003. What follows is my original top ten list, based on films released in NYC in 2003. If I have anything new to say that'll be in red after the original text.

Special Mentions: The Cremaster Cycle and Angels in America

Most Underappreciated: Hulk (Ang Lee), In the Cut (Jane Campion), Anything Else (Woody Allen), Charlies Angels: Full Throttle (McG) and »

This week's cover: Congratulations, Johnny Depp! You're one of our 15 Entertainers of the Decade

3 December 2009 6:00 AM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

When the decade began, Johnny Depp wasn’t the Johnny Depp of today—one of Entertainment Weekly’s 15 Entertainers of the Decade. Yes, he was a talented and critically acclaimed actor. But he wasn’t yet a surefire box-office draw. Then, in 2003, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl happened. Capt. Jack Sparrow was one of those without-a-net performances, so singular and subversive that it’s hard to believe Depp got away with it. An added bonus was that the actor, now 46, was able to sink his soul into a blockbuster character without selling it. And no »

Johnny Depp to Play Tonto in Lone Ranger Movie

4 November 2009 5:26 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

As long ago as March 2008, there was news that Jerry Bruckheimer was producing a live-action Lone Ranger movie and that Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio were working on the screenplay. Not much else was heard of the project until rumors started circulating in May of this year that Jack Sparrow, himself, Johnny Depp, would be starring in the film as Tonto, the Ranger's Native American partner.

In September, during a huge Walt Disney Pictures media blitz, Depp was officially announced to play Tonto. Recently, in a group interview in Santa Monica, Bruckheimer said that the project is still moving forward.

Elliot and Rossio worked on that also with some other writers and with Johnny. So they're creating something that has a kind of true-to-the-western [feel], but adding other additional elements like we did with Pirates so it won't be just a straight-ahead western.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Trailer Goes Live

3 November 2009 3:10 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

Our first reaction on seeing the first trailer for Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time was, well, a bit meh! But then we remembered that's exactly what we thought about the original promo for Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl, and we all know how well that turned out!

So, for now, we're gonna overlook some of the dodgier aspects of this first look at director Mike Newell's big-budget adaptation of the beloved computer game series and focus instead on what is sure to be a rollicking good adventure.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as the roguish Dastan, a former street urchin who inadvertantly gets hold of a magical dagger, hooks up with a lovely princess (Gemma Arterton) and falls foul of an evil wizard (Ben Kingsley).

Take a look at the trailer below (or in high-res here) and don't forget to let us know your thoughts in the comments section. »

First Look at Zoe Saldana in 'The Losers'

7 October 2009 12:30 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Zoe Saldana has been set to play Middle-Eastern hellion Aisha in "The Losers", and Entertainment Weekly has nailed the first look at the "Star Trek" actress in character. The first photo of the lone female member of the group was taken from the set, presenting the 31-year-old in costume which is completed with eyebrow piercing and tied-back hair.

Speaking about the casting of Saldana for the part, writer Andy Diggle who wrote the series opened up, "Aisha has to be deadly and desirable in equal measure, and Zoe embodies both qualities in spades." He furthermore added by promising, "Trust me, you've never seen her kick ass the way she does in The Losers!"

Based on the comic book series published by the Vertigo, "The Losers" has "Stomp the Yard" helmer Sylvain White taking the director's chair. Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt provide the script. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Clay, »

Will Johnny Depp Ditch 'Pirates 4' For Dick Cook?

21 September 2009 1:48 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

As the entertainment world headed out for the weekend, there was a very big shake-up at Disney, with studio head Dick Cook being ousted from the company. Disney's president Bob Iger is determined to reinvent the studio from top to bottom, and reportedly saw Cook as a relic of Disney's cartoonish past. But Cook has a lot of success under his belt, and friendships with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp. Depp was one of the first to speak out about Cook's departure, and hinted darkly to The New York Times about the fate of Sparrow and the Black Pearl.

Depp revealed that he only has a potential deal in place for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It's all dependent on how good the script is, and how favorable he is towards a post-Cook Disney. "There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment. »

Johnny Depp Not as Enthusiastic About Pirates 4

19 September 2009 3:53 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Just last week at Disney's D23 Expo, actor Johnny Depp appeared on stage in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume and persona to help announce the next sequel in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. However, with the sudden departure of Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook this past week, Depp has admitted to feeling less enthusiastic about reprising the Pirates role because of his strong working relationship with Cook.

Depp said that he was "in" on the first movie "before there was a script or anything" after he had a conversation with Cook about the project. Depp also credited Cook with being "supportive" of his portrayal of Jack Sparrow when he was first formulating the character.

When things went a little sideways on the first Pirates movie and others at the studio were less than enthusiastic about my interpretation of the character, Dick was there from the first moment. »

Johnny Depp Confirmed in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

11 September 2009 10:40 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Actor Johnny Depp hovered near the top of the list of Hollywood leading men for years, but it wasn't until his blockbuster portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean that he became a worldwide superstar. Now, his character is so linked with the franchise, it would be hard to imagine a Pirates movie without him. Thankfully, Depp's return to the role is no longer a concern, at least for one more movie. In a rare public appearance in costume, Depp sailed into Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, to help announce that the fourth installment in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, was beginning production and that he would be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. The film is slated for a summer 2011 release.

Pirates of the Caribbean parrot attacks police officer

11 September 2009 7:25 AM, PDT | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

What’s that age old saying? Ah yes, ‘never work with children or animals’, good solid advice. Sometimes they’re an important part in films and are often well trained so they don’t cause trouble. But one police officer found out the hard way how protective these movie star pets can be when he was attacked by an angry parrot. The bird, named Chips, starred in the first installment on the swashbuckling series, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, alongside Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando bloom.

His female owner was pulled over at Dover ferry dock in Kent after an officer spotted her macaw flying around inside the vehicle. After checks showed she was banned from driving, a newly trained officer, PC Martin Dadd, was chosen to drive her car to the pound with the parrot still inside. Chips was extremely angry about the »

tMF Talkback: Anatomy of a Good Actor - The 'case' between Orlando Bloom, Ben Barnes and Johnny Depp

4 September 2009 8:01 AM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

What constitute good acting? What makes a good actor? Are there certain steps one must follow in order to become an actor or is it a gift or a natural talent and requires no formal training? These are the questions we'll try to answer - and before we begin, let me just say, I have been patiently waiting for an 'opportunity' like this, and I would like to thank one tMF viewer for the vigorous and insightful comments on 'good acting' and the case between Ben Barnes, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.

Backgrounder: There is an upcoming movie based on Oscar Wilde's book entitled Dorian Gray starring Ben Barnes. In order to relate this particular article elsewhere in the blogosphere, I refer to a cinematical post about the new movie, and in reaction to cinematical's comment that Ben Barnes might be the next Orlando Bloom. »

tMF Oscarwatch: Best Picture Contender - James Cameron's Avatar - tMF takes a closer look (Part 1)

30 August 2009 7:46 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

The first thing I did after watching the trailer for James Cameron's Avatar was to look for more background info to fully grasp what it's all about. I'm already impressed with what I saw and what contains below impressed me even more:

In 1994, director James Cameron wrote an 80-page scriptment for Avatar. Cameron said his inspiration was "every single science fiction book I read as a kid", and that he was particularly striving to update the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter series. Cameron saw his story as being about how advanced civilizations supplant indigenous cultures, in either actively genocidal or more unpremeditated ways, and was influenced by the story of Pocahontas. In Avatar, humanity extends that practice to entire planets. The premise of a paralyzed man whose mind is remotely controlling an alien body is very similar to Paul Anderson's 1957 short story "Call me Joe." In »
