Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Hit the ‘Fury Road’

2 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

These days it’s hard to go a week without hearing about some remake/reboot coming out of Hollywood. Few of these films can claim they’ve been in the rumor mill for as long as Mad Max: Fury Road.  After two decades, however, actual development is occurring  on the next installment of the Mad Max franchise.

Variety is reporting that Charlize Theron (The Italian Job, Hancock) and Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, Star Trek: Nemesis, Bronson) have both been cast in Fury Road.  Now, as interesting as that casting is everyone is still anxiously waiting to find out if Mel Gibson will reprise his role as Mad Max. When Director George Miller was asked about this he was vague to say the least, “It could be Mel, it could be anyone.”

Whether Gibson is involved or not I’m left wondering if this particular film needs a sequel »

Kareena and Abhishek to work together

31 October 2009 8:32 AM, PDT | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan are to work together on a Bollywood update of The Italian Job after years of estrangement. The son of Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan abruptly ended his four-month engagement with Kareena's sister Karisma Kapoor in 2003, which led to a long-running feud between the pair. A source told the Mumbai Mirror: "Initially talks were on with Saif Ali Khan but he did not have dates and Abhishek Bachchan replaced him. "Although Saif and Kareena’s (more) »

Another splitsville for Salman!

29 October 2009 1:51 PM, PDT | Filmicafe | See recent Filmicafe news »

Salman Khan has more reasons to worry now. After the rumours of a linkup between Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, now comes the news that Katrina Kaif is all set to work with Abhishek Bachchan in Abbas Mustan.s new film, a remake of The Italian Job. Katrina has been chosen to portray the role that Charlize Theron did in the original. With rumours rife that the couple had split, neither Salman nor Katrina have come out in the open with the truth. But people close to the two have confirmed that they have parted ways. The fact that Katrina is now bonding with Sallu.s arch rivals, Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham is evidence enough. The final nail in the coffin however, came with the announcement that the pretty actress will be starring in the Abbas-Mustan film opposite Bachchan Jr.Since Abhishek is married to Salman.s ex, »

Monster Squad Finds A Shrek-Type Director

19 October 2009 5:26 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

If you are like me (and we can only hope you have more of a life than I do), then when you read the title you were hoping it was a remake or sequel to the awesome young boys monster movie from the 80’s, The Monster Squad. Alas, this is not the case because the Warner Bros film was previously titled Nightcrawlers and will be a supernatural action comedy. Great, that means somewhere Will Ferrell will make a ridiculous cameo or heaven forbid, have a starring role.

Warner Bros. Studios has tapped Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Shrek Forever After) to helm the new Monster Squad movie which will work off of a nine year-old spec script written by Brian Lynch and rewritten by Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs). Donald De Line (The Italian Job) is attached to produce and the studio hopes to start filming next summer 2010.

Interview: Director F. Gary Gray of ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ With Jamie Foxx

16 October 2009 6:14 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Justice is the theme of “Law Abiding Citizen,” a new film starring Jamie Foxx as a district attorney in Philadelphia who is targeted for revenge by a former client (Gerald Butler). Directing the film is veteran F. Gary Gray (”Friday,” “The Italian Job”).

Rating: 3.0/5.0

Taking a page from Hannibal Lechter, Gerald Butler portrays Clyde, an self-proclaimed “law abiding citizen” who feels that the crime committed against his family was not satisfactorily punished. Using his superior technical intelligence, Clyde stays one step ahead of ambitious attorney Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), as he conducts his style of revenge.

Gerard Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

Photo: Overture Films "Some justice is better than no justice at all," says Jamie Foxx playing Nick Price, a Philadelphia prosecutor in charge of bringing justice to the two men that killed Clyde Shelton's (Gerard Butler) wife and young daughter in Law Abiding Citizen. It's a statement that speaks to the cracks in the American justice system and as a result Clyde is going to see to it these cracks are turned into canyons once he learns only one of the men will be sentenced to death while the other serves a meager three-year sentence. This is something Clyde simply can't tolerate.

Law Abiding Citizen is madness, mayhem and carnage all wrapped up into one big dumb actioner filled with plot and logic holes galore. Fortunately, it's too much fun along the way to even concern yourself with the hows and the whys of it all. »

Law Abiding Citizen Review

16 October 2009 12:57 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Remember Charles Bronson in Death Wish? Law Abiding Citizen offers a taste of no-mercy vigilante family-man justice 3.0. Ten years after his wife and daughter were slaughtered in front of him, Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) kidnaps one of the perpetrators, straps him down to a torture table, and saws off his limbs (and other things). Then he sends a video of the atrocity to Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), the slick, out-for-himself Philadelphia prosecutor who cut too soft a deal with the killer…read more [EW]

When “Law Abiding Citizen” feels comfortable enough to be a blunt object of suspense, it comes together splendidly. Pitting the harsh realities of the modern justice system against the suburban cry for blood from a soccer dad, Kurt Wimmer’s screenplay nurtures a pungent odor of injustice that sets up the plot in an exhilarating manner. Morally frozen lawyers? Tired, careless judges? Wimmer manipulates audience reaction superbly, »

Sutherland & Foster Join Statham In ‘Mechanic’ Remake

15 October 2009 10:53 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

About six months ago, we reported on Jason Statham being cast in the remake of the 1972 action crime-thriller, The Mechanic, about a hitman who takes on an apprentice. At the time there was word that the remake would be a remake in name only, and the story would be changed to a modern-day spy thriller. However, with the latest casting news, it appears the story will be pretty similar if not the same as the original.

Promising news, I say.

Variety is reporting that Donald Sutherland and Ben Foster (Pandorum, X-Men: The Last Stand) are set to co-star with Statham in The Mechanic remake, which is set to be directed by Simon West (Con Air - one of my favorites, Fyi ) from a screenplay by Karl Gajdusek. Foster is set to play Statham’s hitman apprentice, Steve McKenna (the original role was played by Jan-Michael Vincent), and Sutherland will play »

Law Abiding Citizen (review)

15 October 2009 9:43 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

It had me at kaboom, this thorny moral conundrum of a film, and kept me for a long time. Kept me wondering who was the good guy and who was the villain until I started to dare to believe that maybe this would be the rare studio film that doesn’t feel the need to break things down so prettily. Kept me marveling at how the gray areas were staying gray and the complicated, no-easy-answers stuff kept getting more complicated. And then it lost me, nay, threw me overboard when it threw out all the tricksy pointedness and threw its lot in with those who are willing to throw out the baby of the American legal system with the bathwater of its problems. It’s all about the brokenness of our criminal justice system, this Law Abiding Citizen flick, which anyone can see is broken to the point at which »

Director F. Gary Gray Exclusive Interview Law Abiding Citizen

14 October 2009 3:50 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Opening this Friday is director F. Gary Gray’s “Law Abiding Citizen”. The film is about Gerard Butler’s character taking matters into his own hands after his family is brutally murdered during a home invasion and the justice system fails to fully prosecute the men involved. Jamie Foxx plays the prosecutor and the film is a cat and mouse game between these two great actors.

Anyway, last week I was able to get on the phone with F. Gary Gray and we talked about why he took so long between movies and what was the reason he wanted to make this film. And for fans of DVDs, Gray revealed there will be an unrated directors cut of “Law Abiding Citizen” when it hits home video. Of course we also talked about other subjects and I got an update on the sequel to “The Italian Job”. Our conversation after the jump:

In Theaters: Law Abiding Citizen

14 October 2009 1:30 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

You get one darling exchange between Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) and his young daughter before all bloody hell breaks loose in Law Abiding Citizen, a vicious thriller that can barely wait for the opening titles to end before getting the shitshow on the road. Clyde thinks he's opening the door of his Philly home to the Fed Ex guy, or the delivery guy -- some kind of innocuous guy -- but instead he gets a bat to the face and a knife between his ribs. Two assailants kill his wife before his eyes; he passes out just as his daughter is hauled off for the same fate. It's a brutal opener, and the utter randomness of the violence is supposed to help fire our sympathy for Clyde to a high, vengeful flame. I wish director F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), had had a little more sympathy for the rest of us, »

Five Favorite Films with F. Gary Gray

Director F. Gary Gray began his career creating music videos for several big name R&B and hip-hop artists in the early 90s, including Ice Cube, Tlc, and OutKast. In 1995, Gray made a big screen splash with a little stoner comedy called Friday, starring a pre-Rush Hour Chris Tucker and an up-and-coming Ice Cube, a friend of Gray's. Friday was a surprise hit, opening the doors for future high profile projects such as The Negotiator, 2003's The Italian Job remake, and Be Cool. This week, Gray continues his strong track record in the crime/action genre with Law Abiding Citizen, and... »

Oscar Nunez Multi-Tasks with The Proposal

The actor talks about playing his unique character in the film, The Office and future projects.

While most small-screen viewers will notice Oscar Nunez's work portraying Oscar Martinez on the hit NBC sitcom The Office, the versatile Cuban actor has had his fair share of film roles as well such as The Italian Job and Reno 911!: Miami. The actor returned to the big screen as Ramone in The Proposal, which will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 13. I was able to speak with this comic talent over the phone and here's what he had to say.

So can you talk a bit about how you first heard about the role in The Proposal and how you came on board?

The only person who's worked harder in the Filipino film industry over the past three years than director Adolfo Alix Jr., who's made 11 features since 2006, is his leading lady Anita Linda, who has made 13 in the same time and plays the title role in this minimalist mood piece as stand-in for an entire nation's embittered resilience. Captured in a series of long takes, the film follows our eponymous heroine on a mostly silent odyssey, casually aiding neighbors and strangers alike as she wistfully celebrates her 80th birthday in the shantytown where she lives. »

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that's definitely law abiding ... except for that one time back in '87, but we won't go there. Last week we asked you to slam dunk some captions for a photo from the LeBron James basketball doc More Than a Game. Congrats go out to our three players of the game -- next time don't hog the ball so much.

1. "We're looking at making a sequel to Kazaam. Interested?" -- Drew T.

2. "Lebron James reacts to the news that he lost out on the part of B.A. Baracus in the new A-team movie." -- Tim P.

3. "Lebron, I'm really proud of you, and imma let you finish, but Space Jam was the best basketball-star movie of all time!" -- Zach B.

The Latest News On The Italian Job 2

6 October 2009 7:21 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Since The Italian Job snuck onto screens in 2003 and got away with over 170$ million in box office gold, buzz has been building about the proposed sequel, The Brazilian Job.  The hope, stoked by hints from producer Donald De Line (currently working on Green Lantern),was for a 2011 release with all the major players returning.  That’s a lot of schedules to coordinate, seeing as how we’re talking about Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Ed Norton, Donald Sutherland, Jason Statham, Seth Green and Mos Def, all recognized stars with any number of projects to choose from.

So what’s the news?  Since our last update the new news is…

Wait for it…

Nothing.

That’s right.  Apparently Paramount had a script and even a budget, but management changes put development on hold.  Now director F. Gary Gray, whose current feature Law Abiding Citizen hits theaters on October 16th, says that The Brazilian Job »

Mark Wahlberg Remakes Icelandic Oscar Submission 'Reykjavik-Rotterdam'

6 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Mark Wahlberg has appeared in a handful of remakes throughout his career, but the only ones worth seeing are the two reworked from foreign films ("The Departed;" and I'm counting British classic "The Italian Job" as the other). Hopefully this means good things for the Hollywood remake of Oskar Jonasson's "Reykjavik-Rotterdam," which might star the artist formerly known as Marky Mark, according to Variety. Wahlberg is also attached to produce the new version of the Icelandic thriller along with fellow "Entourage" executive producer Stephen Levinson.

"Reykjavik," one of 60 films in the running for next year's foreign-language Oscar, is about a former alcohol smuggler recruited for one last job. The original has the protagonist as a former crew member of a freighter regularly traveling between Reykjavik, Iceland, and Rotterdam, Netherlands. For the English-language version the locations will be changed of course, but to what? New York and Toronto, maybe?

What's Happening with Italian Job Sequel?

6 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

About a year ago, we caught up with producer Donald De Line to find out about the status of "The Italian Job" sequel. He said that he's had talks with Paramount Pictures and is hoping to get the film going within a year. De Line added that even though the cast doesn't have it in their contracts to return for the sequel, they have all expressed interest in reprising their roles. Well it's now a year later and there's still nothing happening. So ComingSoon got in touch with "Italian Job" director F. Gary Gray to see if he has heard anything. "I think it's really just about getting the material in the right place," he said. "Sequels are tough and you always want to top the original, and I think that's where the energy is being put into developing a script that is just as good, if not better, than the first. »

Exclusive: Director F. Gary Grey Update on the The Italian Job Sequel

5 October 2009 10:56 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Since director F. Gary Gray’s “The Italian Job” first came out, rumors have been circulating that Paramount was developing a sequel. In fact, when I was on the set of “Observe and Report”, producer Donald De Line told us, “we developed a script which was “The Brazilian Job” and they were all excited about the script at Paramount, and we actually budgeted it and everything and we were kind of ready to go, and then a lot of things were happening with various management changes and it got tabled”. Of course with a cast featuring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Donald Sutherland, Jason Statham and Edward Norton, it’s no surprise that people would like to see another adventure.

Anyway, since that set visit, nothing has been reported on the movie and many have wondered if a sequel would ever happen. So when I got on the phone today to talk with director F. »

Will The Brazilian Job Ever Happen?

5 October 2009 10:17 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I won.t lie. I.ve been waiting for The Brazilian Job since the second the credits of The Italian Job started rolling. I dug that movie so much, I ended up buying a Mini Cooper, which I owned for several years before realizing that foreign cars are expensive as shit to keep up. So the fact that the sequel has gained very little ground in the last six years is, in my humble but always right opinion, a bummer. Coming Soon had a chance to talk to The Italian Job director F. Gary Gray (also the director of the upcoming Law Abiding Citizen) about the sequel and its chances of ever getting made. His response to the sequel.s standstill? Not his fault. He tells the website that The Brazilian is in Paramount.s hands, which may not be the best of news. The movie was made in 2003 and »
