  • A drunk man tries to force a kiss from a young woman.

  • The warden scratches Mr. Sir's face. Later, the wounds are shown swollen.
  • A stagecoach turns over; three dead men in open coffins are shown.
  • A woman abruptly shoots the town sheriff (off-screen), killing him.
  • In the act of a racial hate crime, a black man is shot in an extreme wide shot.
  • A boy cuts his hands on the edge of a shovel (some blood is shown).
  • Three boys get in a fight and one boy is choked but not killed.
  • A boy whacks a man with a shovel and the man is knocked out (some blood is shown).
  • A man tells a boy not to move and points a gun in his direction. He then shoots a lizard.

Profanity

  • Several uses of "hell" and "damn" and one of "jackass".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man is very drunk and asks for a kiss from a young woman.
  • It is revealed that Mr. Sir has given up smoking and the Warden later says she liked him better when he smoked. He is later shown smoking a cigarette.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This movie is very intense, and it's not really a family movie. There's plotting (in a very realistic manner), there's cruelty by the guards. Mistreatment and verbal abuse. We see a fairly violent prison riot scene. This is not for children.
  • This movie is about a boy who is sent to an extraordinarily bad camp with violent boys, and must cope with nobodies as wardens, strict bedtimes and working in the hot sun.
  • A boy is bit by a rattlesnake.
  • A woman commits suicide by putting a venomous lizard to her arm and allowing it to bite her.
  • There is a town riot; a black man is being persecuted to be hanged. The schoolhouse is set on fire and the man's mule is found dead. The man attempts to escape but is eventually shot in the back.
  • A boy is trapped in a hole with venomous lizards tries to escape. He is unable to escape.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • It is revealed that a boy (Zero) was left homeless by his mother at a young age for an unknown reason.
  • During a riot, a school is burned down, Sam's donkey is seen dead on the floor, and Kate is nearly forced on by a drunk sheriff, and Sam is shot on his boat. Very sad scene, that leads to Kate becoming a outlaw.
