Chicago – Tomorrow, November 22nd, 2013, is the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Beyond the numerous TV programs and tributes expected for the memory, which films have lent the best perspective over the years regarding that Day in Dallas? The following offers five films for consideration.
Films and the cinema also figured in the capture of Lee Harvey Oswald. The alleged assassin ducked into Texas Theater in Dallas as he was on the run from the murder scene, and was apprehended inside the theater. A war film double feature was playing there – “Cry of Battle” (1963) and “War is Hell” (1963). It was the second film that was interrupted when police descended on Oswald.

We’re still squeeing over the fact that The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is really and truly being shot right now, so this latest news about another of our young-adult fiction faves feels like second Christmas: Summit is reportedly in talks with Neil Burger to direct Veronica Roth’s Divergent! This is just according to “sources” at Variety right now, and Summit isn’t commenting, but just the thought of getting this close to seeing Tris and Four and the Dauntless headquarters come to life on the big screen is super exciting. The studio is said to be aiming for a release in the first quarter of 2014.
Burger’s last film was Limitless, which earned plenty of kudos for star Bradley Cooper, who played a man who takes a drug that suddenly makes him a genius. But there was ample praise for Burger as well. “Director Neil Burger, whose...

Bryan Singer & Guy Ritchie's "Excalibur" Projects Are Dead It looks like Neil Burger is finally seeing some dividends after a decade or so in Hollywood. He burst onto the scene with "Interview With The Assassin" in 2002, but four years his sophomore effort, the magician drama "The Illusionist" was overshadowed by another similarly themed movie that came out the same year, none other than Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige." By the time Burger got to his Iraq war drama "The Lucky Ones," audiences had already cooled on the genre but this year, he finally struck gold with "Limitless," the sci-fi…...

It's safe to say that a lot of fans of the hit Playstation videogame series Uncharted felt that David O. Russell was certainly an interesting choice to direct a big screen version of, but not everyone agreed that he was the right choice. One of the main motivating factors behind that being the fact that Russell was pushing to cast Mark Wahlberg in the lead role as a modern day (and more foolish) Indiana Jones-type treasure hunter. Well, if you were one of those fans, Variety has some very good news for you: Sony has found its replacement director for Russell, who left the project weeks ago. Neil Burger, director of Limitless, The Lucky Ones, The Illusionist and Interview With the Assassin (which is a pretty interesting flick, if you ever happen to stumble across it...

Sony’s movie adaptation of Playstation video game “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” is back on course. According to Variety, director Neil Burger will direct and write the film based on Sony Playstation’s best-selling video game. Earlier this year, director David O. Russell left the project due to creative differences. There has been no official announcement if Mark Wahlberg is still attached to the project. Burger recently directed “Limitless” that starred Bradley Cooper, Anna Friel and Abbie Cornish. He directed a few films including “The Lucky Ones,” “The Illusionist” and “Interview with the Assassin.” “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” is a Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones-like video game developed by Naughty Dog. The main character Nathan Drake is a treasure hunter. Naughty Dog released “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” video game in 2009 and the third game “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” will be released later this year.Source: Variety...

The notion that we're using only five percent to ten percent of our brains is a myth, though you're bound to believe this if you note the test scores of our schoolchildren in reading and math. We want to imagine this, perhaps, because we hope that in the near future Pfizer will come up with a pill that will liberate our brains, allowing us to use all of their potential. Then again, if everyone is as smart as you, how will you be able to outguess your fellow Americans on which companies are about to merge, sending their stocks ski-high and handing you a fortune just for being able to get the jump on your fellows? In adapting Alan Glynn's (now out of print) novel "The Dark Fields, Leslie Dixon feeds into this understandable fantasy that by swallowing a clear pill daily we could have beaten Bobby Fischer at chess,...

The idea of the average man being endowed with God-like powers, or using their own resourcefulness to combat evil is far from new. For the ordinary to experience the extraordinary and become what they always lacked is tantalizing. In the current era of filmmaking, one can scarcely move an inch without bumping into a larger-than-life bicep or ridiculous costume. By and large, these excursions into the superhero realm are flights of whimsy, trifles wherein audiences can sit back and fantasize about all the things they cannot or will not be.
In two new releases, the notion of the super man (not to be confused with Superman) is explored through very different styles. Though both films have their strengths, each lacks the nerve to follow its conclusion down the rabbit hole and remove the audience of the traditional release they’ve come to expect and crave.

With only four film deep into his career, filmmaker Neil Burger has been amassing a varied body of work. So far he's done mystical period drama ("The Illusionist"), a pseudo docum-drama about who killed JFK ("Interview With The Assassin"), an post Iraq War indie drama ("The Lucky Ones"), and now his most ambitious work, "Limitless," a New York-set self-improvement, power-and-influence drama set within the confines of reality-based sci-fi. In the film, Bradley Cooper plays Eddie Morra, a struggling writer who's suffering from almost a decade of writer's block, which is not making his agent and his book deal any happier.…...

After wearing two hats on three feature films, Interview with the Assassin, The Illusionist and The Lucky Ones, writer-director Neil Burger decided it was time to narrow his focus and just direct. Conveniently enough, writer-producer Leslie Dixon had a script on her hands, but no director. They joined forces and the result is the wildly intense and visually vivid thriller Limitless. The film focuses on a drug called Nzt, a pill packing the power to give a person the ability to use 100% of his or her brain. For Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper), that means the ability to emerge from the foggy slump of an uninspired writer and step into the illuminated world of a high-powered financial consultant. Yes, the character development starts with what.s in Dixon.s script, but from there, it.s all up to Burger and he certainly seized the opportunity to use the mind-bending nature of...

'Limitless' Director Says He Has Several Projects To Choose From & The Bradley Cooper/De Niro Sci-Fi Film Is Opening Doors Exclusive: Eclectic filmmaker Neil Burger has gone from pseudo-documentary ("Interview With The Assassin"), to period-drama ("The Illusionist" with Ed Norton), to smaller indie, post-Iraq War film ("The Lucky Ones") and now has landed on a film that combines self-improvement, sci-fi-ish elements and high stakes power in New York, "Limitless." Made for a meager $26 million dollars--meager when you consider it's very effects heavy and something like "The Social Network" which had twice less the effects was made for north of…...

Universal Pictures officially added three movies from Rogue Pictures to their 2011 slate today. Dramatic comedy Kids in America launches Jan. 28, thriller The Dark Fields opens Mar. 18, and fantasy epic War of Gods attacks theaters Nov. 11. Paramount Pictures also made an adjustment to their release schedule today, moving comedy Morning Glory from July 30 to Nov 12.
War of Gods (a tentative title), featuring Henry Cavill (The Tudors), Kellen Lutz (Twilight) and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), follows Greek hero Theseus as he battles imprisoned titans seeking to take over the world. This announcement comes at a time when Greek mythology is experiencing a bit of a resurgence at the movies, with Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief grossing over $200 million worldwide and the Clash of the Titans remake about to open. Elizabeth Banks has never been in a movie that I disliked (The Uninvited doesn't count because I removed that memory from my brain with a coat hanger). Bradley Cooper has charisma to spare, even if it seems like that kind of vaguely frat-boyish, smarmy charisma. But he's great in The Hangover and even his small role in The Wedding Crashers is fun. He needs to stay away from the shitty romcoms, though. Seriously Bradley. Stop it.
Anyway, the point of all of this is that what we have here is two conventionally comedic actors coming together to make a decidedly unfunny and very bizarre-sounding movie. According to Bloody Disgusting (via ComingSoon), Banks is apparently in talks to join Cooper in Dark Fields, the upcoming film from Rogue Pictures. The title sounds like a death metal band that went country, but whatever.

If you're a Lost fanatic like me, you were likely as glued to the television screen as I was last Tuesday night when the final season of this magnificent sci-fi show premiered. Like many of you, I was scratching my head as to what the hell the writers are up to for this season, and was rabidly speculating theories with my friends.
Amidst the brain melting scrutinizing, however, I found the time to geek out over two guest stars I love: the always likable John Hawkes (Deadwood, Eastbound & Down) and Japanese badass Hiroyuki Sanada (Ring, The Twilight Samurai, Sunshine).
Over the years, many recognizable actors have stopped by to do guest spots on the show, to compliment the already spectacular regular cast. While revisiting all five previous seasons of Lost in anticipation of the sixth and last season, I made a point to note all the known guest stars I spotted.
