This movie raised censorship controversies among conservative Muslims in Indonesia, being the first Indonesian teen movie that featured a kissing scene.
In 2014, a mini drama related to the movie was produced for messaging app commercial. It involved 6 real casts in the 2002 movie, including Nicholas Saputra and Dian Sastro. Since then, What's Up with Love? once again became hot topic in Indonesia, and the majority asked for the 'real' sequel.

Shortly after its success, this movie was adapted into a TV series with a different cast. When asked about his opinion on the TV series' casting on Prambors radio in 2003, Nicholas Saputra expressly stated, "I'm bored (with playing Rangga) already by now!"
The movie was shot at Kolese Gonzaga high-school in which director Rudy Soedjarwo and the actor playing Mamet, Dennis Adhiswara, both attended.
