OK, so it's got all the dumb hick farm jokes in it, this short is till pretty amusing. Ben Blue is the handyman to the farm family that includes Shemp Howard as one of the sons. Shemp's Dad in the film gives each of his sons $50 (a huge fortune, they think). The older son buys a wife through the mail named Flossie. Shemp buys a cow through the mail named... Flossie. When the woman Flossie arrives, Shemp tells Ben to put her in the barn. When the cow Flossie arrives, the other brother tells Ben to put her in the guest room. Wackiness ensues. But I laughed, so what the heck? Never seen Ben looking so young. And Shemp is timeless -- he always looked the same. Worth checking out.

If you are looking for an intellectual comedy, "Here Comes Flossie!" is not for you. The film is pretty dumb...and you'll hate yourself for laughing anyway!
A farmer brings in his two sons to tell them he appreciates their hard work and wants to reward them with $50 each--to spend any way they like. One announces he's buying a mail order bride, the other (Shemp Howard) a prize cow (to each his own, I guess). The problem is no one knows that the woman AND the cow are both named Flossie...which creates a problem for their handyman (Ben Blue), as he's told to take Flossie into the stable and bathe her...but it's the woman. And, when the cow arrives, it's much the same sort of confusion. Dopey...but also moderately funny at the same time. Not a must-see film but harmless fun from Vitaphone.

I am not a critic and I'm far from being one. I really enjoyed this short. Ben Blue love him or hate him he had his own style of comedy. To me if a comic makes me laugh he's doing his job. Both Ben and Shemp Howard are playing off each other pretty well here. I'm a sucker for comedy shorts. Both did their jobs in this short.
Ben Blue and Shemp Howard provide many genuine laughs in Here Comes Flossie!

This is yet another of Shemp Howard's early film appearances. In this one, he plays the son of a farmer who gives his two sons $50 each to do what they want with it. Shemp's brother wants to marry a woman named Flossie through the mail, while Shemp wants another cow with the same name. A handyman played by Ben Blue gets the orders mixed up. The confusions are pretty hilarious through the end. So on that note, I recommend Here Comes Flossie!
