The Early Days of Epcot
My parents bought this video back when we visited Walt Disney World back when I was eight years old. Truth be told, I didn't really care much for EPCOT Center when I was little. I found it kind of boring, especially The Land pavilion that talks about farming. I just thought, `Hey, I'm from Idaho. If I wanted to know about farming, I'd stay home.' However, now I'm a fan of Epcot, as I worked there during the Fall 2001 semester. A lot has changed there, and things have gotten a little more exciting, but it's still fun to look at this video to see how much the park has changed.
The video highlights some extinct attractions like World of Motion, Horizons, and the first version of Journey Into Imagination. I laughed when I saw some of the technical `advancements' that were illustrated on the video. It's just quaint! I also laughed when I saw an attraction where people would push a button on their seat when asked questions, such as `What is your opinion on nuclear waste?' I guess surveys and theme parks don't really mix, as I don't remember ever hearing about that attraction when I worked there.
Another thing that I really liked about the video was the clip of Walt Disney talking about his EPCOT project. I saw that quite a bit when I was down there, and even the cast member cafeteria had a picture hanging up of that TV program. It brings back good memories, as does the rest of the video. I also enjoyed the video montage on the making of EPCOT Center, probably because it was the only time there was upbeat music during the video. Things really slow down when the video talks about World Showcase where the countries are located. The music was so depressing, no wonder I didn't really care for EPCOT Center or this video when I was little.
Nevertheless, this is a good look back at the EPCOT Center that was. Just like the park, the video is quite different from any other theme park souvenir video that you will ever see.
My IMDb Rating: 8/10
