Lata Mangeshkar's first hit film song in India was in this 1948 film.It was the music director Ghulam Haider that introduced Lata to the film world. He saw the talent in her while film producers,at that time, thought her voice was too shrilly & thin compared to the already established singer Noor Jehan's voice.Ghulam Haider took a risk with her in 1948, and the rest is history !!! Now they know her as a music icon of India.
Lata's 84th birthday was on Sept.28,2013. In an interview on that day , Lata herself describes how music director Ghulam Haider showed complete faith in her talent in 1948 film Majboor, when other film producers were not willing to introduce her to the film world.Ghulam Haider not only had her record her first film song, but also invited many great music directors of that era like Naushad,Anil Biswas to witness the recording of her first film song for film Majboor (1948).The song was..."Dil mera tora, mujhe kahin ka na chhora teray pyaar ne" lyrics by Nazim Panipati which soon became first big breakthrough hit film song for Lata.Lata herself said,"Ghulam Haider is truly my Godfather. It was his confidence in me that he fought for me to tuck me into the Hindi Film Industry which otherwise had initially rejected me".
