Inspiration struck a few years ago and I organised a few gal friends, all 40 something, into making a 7 minute video called 'Cappuccino Crawl' for the Ballarat Winter Film festival. No one told me I didn't have to actually shoot it on the coldest day of the year, I just thought it would add realism. So, I knew a little of how the producer, John Chase, felt asking a bus load of oldies to co-operate during filming of 'Dalkeith' in Ballarat when it started to snow! The Eureka Rebellion was nothing compared to my girl friends. Still, I now also appreciate the importance of on set catering as they demolished the pot of soup I'd wisely made up for the lunch break, while we previewed the mornings 'shoot.' I also gained insight into seeing yourself on screen, up way too big and no denying You Do Look Just Like That. The shrieks in our lounge were just the same as the ones at the preview screening of 'Dalkeith' for cast and friends. Why did we make a video when Film Festivals are more the testing ground of the young? Because we could. Did we win? Well we may have, but Helen slept with the judge, John Chase. Actually, they've been partners for years, but it made a good excuse. 'Dalkeith' is full of our Australian attitude to life, no matter our age. Have a go, you're a long time dead. This movie is more than feel good, it is a warm reassurance of the joy of living life til you 'canna live it no more capt'n.'
