LONDON -- FilmFour, the movie development and production arm of broadcaster Channel Four, has teamed up with Company Pictures, Screen Yorkshire and the U.K. Film Council to bankroll Penny Woolcock's Mischief Night, the parties said Monday. The movie, billed as a wild contemporary comedy-drama about two families -- one white, one Asian -- who come together unexpectedly, begins shooting this week on location in Leeds, England. Written and directed by Woolcock (The Principles of Lust), Mischief was developed by Company Pictures and FilmFour with the assistance of U.K. Film Council Development funding and will be produced by Abi Bach and Willow Grylls for Company Pictures ("The Life and Death of Peter Sellers").

CANNES -- Executives of the newly revamped FilmFour, the movie department of the United Kingdom's Channel 4, jetted into Cannes to reveal details of their production and development slate Thursday. The new-look company, headed by Tessa Ross, has eight titles on its development slate. Titles include an adaptation of Jake Arnott's novel He Kills Coppers, penned by television writer Simon Burke (White Teeth). Currently in the early stages of development, the movie will be produced by indie producer Nik Powell but has no director or cast attached at present. The slate also includes a project from TV writer and director Penny Woolcock (The Principles of Lust) titled Twist. Billed as a thriller set in the seedy underbelly of the gambling world, it will be produced by indie production outfit Company Pictures.

Pathe Entertainment, the French-owned and London-based movie sales, distribution, production and financing company, sealed a deal Monday with FilmFour, the stand-alone film arm of U.K. broadcaster Channel Four, for distribution and sales duties on 11 titles. The wide-ranging agreement includes Gus Van Sant's Gerry and It's All About Love, directed by Thomas Vinterberg. The other nine titles under the agreement are Bodysong, Emperor's New Clothes, Miranda, Motorcycle Diaries, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, Principles of Lust, Touching the Void, Cypher and To Kill a King. Under the deal, Pathe will distribute theatrically the 11 titles and will deduct an undisclosed fee from revenue generated. Free and pay TV rights to the titles are retained by Channel Four, while video and DVD sell-through rights remain with VCL in the United Kingdom.
