UK outfit Seven Stories to make cricket series for SVoD giant.
Netflix has ordered an Indian drama from All3Media-owned UK independent producer Seven Stories.
The London-based firm, established by film directors Anand Tucker and Sharon Maguire and chaired by Stephen Lambert, is producing Selection Day, a story about cricket and corruption.
The multi-part series, which is based on Booker Prize winning author Aravind Adiga’s novel, tells the story of rivalry between two teenage boys in Mumbai.
It is one of Netflix’s first original dramas to emerge from India and is its latest global commission.
Selection Day is the first order for Seven Stories, which was set up by India Summers and Shopgirl director Tucker and Bridget Jones’ Baby director Maguire in 2015.
Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix, said the SVoD service was excited to be expanding its slate of originals in the country.

There’s no denying the cultural magnitude of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 grindhouse classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Inspiring legions of seminal directors, as well as providing the framework for a growing horde of derivative copycats (not to mention a gaggle of flaccid sequels, prequels, and rehashes), it’s now reached its 40th year anniversary. Necessitating a half-year transfer process, the brand new 4k transfer was showcased at genre fests such as 2014′s SXSW & Fantasia Film Fests and a prestige re-showing at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. Though decades of horror films have refurbished Hooper’s methods to such a degree that the more infamous episodes of violence may seem less horrific by today’s torture porn standards, the film has lost none of its ambient potency. In all the glorious reconstitutions, no one has been able to outdo the gritty, grainy, and bizarre levels of unease accomplished here.
By now, we all know the well-tread story.

Every morning I peruse the list of currently free Amazon Kindle titles, and this Tuesday morning I was quite happy to see that Cemetery Dance Publications set the price of Brian James Freeman's Seven Stories collection to free for a limited time (the sale ends Saturday!). By Tuesday afternoon of this price change, Seven Stories was #1 in the free part of the Anthologies for Kindle section of Amazon.com in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany! I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks the top 100 overall too. It is that good. Why does this please me? Well, I'm excited to hear other people's opinions on these works that have been such a joy to me. I purchased this...

Ouseburn's once derelict factories and warehouses are buzzing again with artists' studios, music venues and cinemas. Stephen Emms guides us around
Ouseburn was, until 10 years ago, a monument to an industrial past, its derelict factories, red-brick warehouses and mills lurking in the shadow of Victorian bridges and viaducts less than a mile from Newcastle city centre. Now, this picturesque valley, either side of the river Ouse (once used to carry coal by boat from Spital Tongues down to waiting barges on the Tyne), is the creative heart of Newcastle.
Following years of post-industrial decline, its regeneration, kick-started by community-driven enterprise rather than corporate business (the Ouseburn Trust in partnership with the local authority), has given the area's unique architecture and riverside setting a new lease of life – in the form of artists' studios, live music venues, an independent cinema and galleries. Here's a quick tour to get you started.
