Sister Lucia, the living seer of Fatima, (her two cousins died shortly after the reported apparitions) very much liked this movie as she believed it was truer to the historical events, compared to the Warner Bros production, The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima, in 1952.
The young actors, who played the children of Fatima, reprised their role, on the occasion of Pope John Paul II's visit to the Marian shrine in Fatima on 13 May 1991, wearing the same costumes, as in the movie, dressed as peasant Portuguese children of that era.
The television series "Unsolved Mysteries" hosted by Robert Stack, in a segment of the episode broadcast on 3 November 1993 entitled "The Fatima Miracle", contained a few excerpts from the movie, in its presentation of the story.
The film continues to be exhibited at least seven times per day, almost every day since 1992 at a cinema in Fatima, Portugal. The film has been dubbed into at least six additional different language versions, and is exhibited at Fatima in the original Portuguese, and in dubbed versions in Italian, French, English, German, Polish, and Spanish.
