  • Continuity: As Roger and Mimi leave the restaurant, after "La Vie Boheme", Roger is wearing a necklace on the outside of his shirt. When he gets outside to sing "I Should Tell You", the necklace is gone. As the couple re-enters the café, the necklace is visible again.

  • Continuity: During the "La Vie Boheme" reprise, you can see that the word AIDS that Tom Collins wrote on the board before Mimi and Roger go outside for "I Should Tell You" is different. The 's' is really sloppy and large when he first writes it, but if you look at the board behind the characters when they are on the bar, it changes size and handwriting.

  • Continuity: Before "La Vie Boheme", when the characters meet up outside, Maureen and Angel go to hug, yet when the shot is taken back from afar, Mimi appears to hug Maureen and Angel stands there with arms crossed.

  • Continuity: During the Tango Maureen sequence Mark's jacket keeps moving throughout the shots.

  • Continuity: When Angel sings "Today 4 U," her bangs get messed up when she "dives" onto the couch before she drums on the table. When the scene changes from Collins to Angel, her hair is fixed.

  • Continuity: During "Today 4 U", Angel hands Roger some money, and we see him put it into his pocket, yet after, when there is a shot from behind Roger it is still in his hands.

  • Continuity: In "Today 4 U", when Collins clears the table for Angel to jump onto, you see him clearing a blue mug and a brown one, yet when the next camera shot is closer, we see him individually clearing them away.

  • Continuity: Just before the "she's my sister" part, we see Mimi get off the table to sit back on her chair twice.

  • Continuity: After placing Mimi on the table, Roger runs around to the other side and flicks the jacket covering Mimi up so it covers her entire shoulders. In the next shot the jacket is down off her shoulders.

  • Continuity: During "La Vie Boheme" when everyone sings "To S&M" Mimi is lying down on the table. In the next shot she's standing up and pointing at Benny as he storms off. In the next shot she's lying down on the table again.

  • Continuity: After Maureen jumps on the table during "Take me or Leave Me" Joanne is walking towards her with her hands in her pocket. In the next shot she has her arms folded in front of her.

  • Continuity: During "La Vie Boheme", when everyone is shouting "Fight AIDS" Collins has disappeared from his spot beside the chalkboard, but he is there in the scene before and after.

  • Continuity: In the beginning when Benny, Mark, and Roger are standing outside singing, the fire in the background disappears between shots.

  • Continuity: During the strip club sequence for the song "Without You", a dollar bill disappears and reappears in Mimi's underwear.

  • Continuity: Benny throws a ball of paper to Roger who places it on the Range Rover . As he starts singing the song "You'll See Boys". The paper continues to move around on the hood of the Range Rover during the song.

  • Continuity: The collar on the coat Angel buys Collins is flipped up originally so Collins flips it down. In the next shot he flips it down again.

  • Continuity: In the subway scene, there is a woman sitting in a seat towards the back. After Tom shakes Roger's head she disappears, then reappears again.

  • Anachronisms: When Maureen and Joanne commit to each other, there are many cars in the background that were produced much later than 1990.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene that shows scenes of Radio City and then New York City on December 29, 1989, there is a picture of a New York City Police Officer with a dark blue uniform shirt. New York City Police Officers wore light blue uniform shirts at that time.

  • Continuity: During 'Light My Candle' when Mimi sings "We could light the candle...” she goes from holding the candle with two hands to one hand and then back to two hands again.

  • Continuity: Benny throws a ball of paper to Roger who places it on the Range Rover . As he starts singing the song "you'll see boys". The paper continues to move around on the hood of the Range Rover during the whole song

  • Continuity: When Mimi is placed on the table at the end, they throw a cloth down, not covering the whole table. When she is finally revived, the cloth is covering the whole table length.

  • Errors in geography: The One Way signs shown in the movie have a triangular shape, those are only used by One Way signs in California, not New York where this movie takes place.

  • Continuity: The outside of the subway train the characters ride in is an R-40, yet the inside is an R-32.

  • Continuity: On the subway, Angel removes a man's hat and places it on another man's head. Moments later the hat's owner is seen taking it back and putting it back on his head twice.

  • Continuity: When Joanne asks for commitment from Maureen, Mark is in the background, getting ready to get on his bike. He goes to put on one of his gloves and in the next scene his gloves are no where to be seen.

  • Continuity: During "Today for You" the bike that Angel puts against the desk, switches from being up against the desk to being dropped on the floor by the desk between shots.

  • Continuity: When riding his bike during the song "Rent", Mark's messenger bag switches from one shoulder to the other, and then back again.

  • Continuity: During "Today for you" Mark is holding a paper cup in some shots, and in others his hands are empty.

  • Continuity: On the subway train during 'Santa Fe,' the woman at the end of the train with them sits down twice - when Collins sings the line 'Computer Age Philosophy' and when the camera goes back to the shot of all four of the people in the song.

  • Continuity: In the scene on the subway with Collins, Roger, Angel, and Mark, we see Collins hold out a cup while he sings "Santa Fe". After returning Roger's coin, we see Collins throw the cup onto the empty seat behind him (screen left). In the next scene, we see the cup next to Angel, in a completely different seat.

  • Anachronisms: In the song "What You Own" when Mark is riding in the passenger's seat of the Buzzline van, a banner promoting the New York Olympic Bid for the 2012 Olympics can be clearly seen on a light pole. These banners didn't go up until 2004.

  • Continuity: During "Out Tonight", as Mimi is opening her windows, about to step onto her balcony, her sleeves are not rolled up. When she steps out in the next shot, both sleeves are rolled up to her elbows without her having time to roll them up.

  • Continuity: The cowbell on Maureen's hip disappears in a few shots during Over The Moon.

  • Continuity: During the song 'La Vie Boheme', right before Mimi and Angel sing their "To handcrafted beers...” line, Mimi is seen beginning to climb onto the table. In the next shot she's sitting in her seat, and climbs onto the table again.

  • Continuity: During the "Today 4 U" scene Roger is keeping a beat for Angel on his curled leg when the shot is in front of him, his hand that is closest to Collins and Mark is below his knee, but, when the shot is behind him his hands are folded over the top of his knee, and he's not tapping out the beat.

  • Continuity: Roger's hair goes behind his ears and in front of his ears repeatedly during "Light My Candle".

  • Crew or equipment visible: During the riot, right before the shot of Benny struggling to leave, you can see a cameraman and his "hidden" camera, used to get the audience's reaction, filming to the far right.

  • Continuity: When Mark enters the Life Cafe snow appears and reappears on his shoulders.

  • Continuity: In "La Vie Boheme," the joint/cigarette behind Collins's right ear disappears and then reappears in the next shot (as he announces that Maureen will perform "Native American tribal chants").

  • Anachronisms: When on the way to Mark's job interview, Maureen, Mark and Joanne pass an Au Bon Pain. The yellow and blue color scheme was not adopted until well after the movie takes place.

  • Anachronisms: In Today 4 U, Angel sings " Like Thelma and Louise did when they got the blues..." however the scene takes place in 1989, before Thelma & Louise (1991) came out, so there is no way for Angel to know about the ending of the movie.

  • Continuity: When Mimi is standing in the stair way before the "Candle" song you see Rodger go by and you can clearly hear him shut and lock the door upstairs behind him, but in the next shot of Rodger he is just shutting the door.

  • Continuity: Throughout the movie, Mark and Roger's answering machines repeatedly switches between answering after one ring and answering after two rings. A person could argue that the number of rings was changed by either Mark or Roger, but at the beginning of the movie, on Christmas day, it rings a different number of times for Maureen's call than it does for the call from Mark's parents, and no one has made any changes to the machine.

  • Continuity: When Angel is drumming on the bucket, someone comes by and puts a quarter on the bucket. You can see it go to the edge but, when Angel picks it up, it's in the middle.

  • Continuity: In the beginning of La Vie Boheme when Mark sings "Dearly beloved, we gather here to say our goodbyes", Maureen is seen with both her hands under her chin, but when the shot changes, both arms are down in front of her on the table.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the number 'Today 4 U' the drum beats that Angel does on the table and the piping don't align with the drum beats in the track.

  • Continuity: During "I'll Cover You", when Angel and Collins are walking down the sidewalk, the man with the German Shepherd passes twice.

  • Anachronisms: During "Over the Moon" the lyrics say: "...it's like being tied to a yellow rental truck filled with fertilizer and fuel oil...". An obvious reference to the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing that took place in April of 1995. The movie is set in 1989-1990.

  • Continuity: In the stage musical, the entire first act takes place on Christmas Eve, concluding with "La Vie Boheme." The film spreads the first act over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which is reflected in a few lyrical changes in Collins' intro for "Today 4 U" and "Out Tonight" which creates plot holes in the time line. Angel meets Collins the night of Christmas Eve and takes him home after the mugging, but in "Today 4 U" the next day, she sings that she met the lady in the limousine that morning, caused Evita's fall, trimmed the lady's tree, and THEN met Collins.

  • Continuity: During "Finale B", Mark shows his film and there is footage of Angel singing during "Today 4 U". Mark was not filming during that scene.

  • Continuity: During the "La Vie Boheme A" sequence, Maureen switches places. At the beginning of the "Bisexuals, Trisexuals..." section, Maureen is shown to be in front of Angel, Mark, and Mimi, who are in the middle of the table, in one shot on the line "Bisexuals", but in the very next shot ("Trisexuals"), she is shown to be at the end of the table where she normally is.

  • Anachronisms: The Pan Am building is shown with the MetLife logo, which change didn't occur until 1992, two years after the action in the movie takes place.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In "Today 4 U" Angel sings about getting paid $1,000 "to make my neighbor's yappy dog disappear, an Akita named Evita". Yet Akitas are known for not barking or making a sound unless they are attacking.

  • Continuity: During the "Today 4 U" sequence Mark as a cup in his hand which disappears and then reappears in the next shot. This happens off and on throughout the song.

  • Anachronisms: When Roger is sitting in the window the morning after Another Day, there is a Coke can sitting next to him, of a model from some time after 1990.

  • Continuity: During the song "Santa Fe", a woman can be seen sitting behind Collins as he sings, and in the next shot she is gone.

  • Continuity: During "Finale B", when Mark's film is playing, there are a few clips of Angel during "Today 4 U". However, during the "Today 4 U" number, nobody is filming.

  • Continuity: Roger is seen lighting a bunch of candles. They're there in the rest of the shots but are nowhere to be seen when Mimi enters.

  • Continuity: In the song 'Rent', when Collins was getting beat up in the alley, his jacket was off before he fell to the ground, then it was back on for the muggers to take.
