Strange no-budget movie about a trip around Ireland in the late-'90s. DVD review.
A conceited but likable writer (O'Mochain) travels from city to city while a documentary is made about his unpublished book.
This picture is like something made by a group of young film students. The reason I kept watching was because of the attractive camerawoman Guiney. There were many silly scenes including the woeful bookshop theft and the fight in the Wexford pub (complete with an inbred local). The lead character played by O'Mochain is arrogant, egotistical, and conceited. The funniest scene has him networking at the Galway Film Fleadh with other wannabee filmmakers (what a bunch of pretentious jerks). Strange movie that somehow got a DVD release. There were some funny scenes but the movie is too uneven, badly filmed, and dull.
The Book That Wrote Itself is a sub-standard fake documentary that is best left to film schools.
