One step forward, two steps back

Yeah... im the king of unpopular opinions (just wait to my Gen 5 review.... ugh). Anyway, Gen 2 despite all has some undeniable improvements over 1, like less glitches (but still there are a lot and even new ones), better moveset for some Pokemon, lots of new Pokemon, arguably better soundtrack, the possibility of replaying trainers, nice visuals, and.... thats pretty much it.... If i hate something about old sequels is that overall you have to get pass more flaws to enjoy the better aspects... but like always i just cant. Simple experiences are always better because of being more polished and dont put iff or butts. Gen 2 introduces a lot of new things but it ended up being overambitious, with lots of bad gimmicks and just filler things that makes the experience padded. First of all, the game is much more slower, due to combats have an unbalanced level curve that makes grinding annoying as hell, and minor things like animations and walking animation being also very slow. If there´s something i love from Gen 1 compared to newer entries is that is the fastest of all the games. The day and night system..... Impressive for the console i would say and very innovative, but the true is that some players cannot play all of the time of the day (it also runs quickly the battery). Later we have the roaming and shiny Pokemon that are so badly made due to being so heavily luck base, and some shiny Pokemon are weaker than the normal variants and are ugly as hell!

And for last... the two regions.... The thing that everyone solds this games.... but not for me. The two regions are so small, even smaller than original Kanto and again, padded an unbalanced as hell. If they wasted their time making one bigger region it would be much better. This is just like a novelty, because while i can more or less forgive Johto, Kanto in Gen 2 feels like a prototype!

And this would be much more personal, but i didnt like the rebalance of some Pokemon. Yeah, some useless Pokemon in Gen 1 were now more stronger in Gen 2, but other ones were so nerfed to the point of being useless... so... whats the point? And their obtention is also unbalanced. While Gen 1 had some powerful Pokemon, their obtention was excusable, but not in Gen 2. And you would find more Gen 1 Pokemon in Johto, so what is the point on introducing a sequel with new Pokemon if i can barely use them and are useless as hell?

Gen 2 is like one step forward and two steps back. Is probably the most technically impressive GBC game (hell, it could even pass as a GBA game), but that doesnt mean anything if the game isnt fun. Why i have to ignore "buts" to enjoy the new aspects? Gen 1 despite some aspects did everything it wanted to do right. Is still a good game, probably one of the best of the console, but today is not very enjoyable. Without having the simplicity and tight design of 1 or the overall refinement of 3, 2 for me would remain the weakest of the trilogy.
