The new, Nsfw action movie Hobo With a Shotgun is so extreme even star Rutger Hauer thinks it goes too far. How did a fake trailer made for just $150 become the year’s maddest movie?
Canadian director Jason Eisener originally wanted to make his debut feature film Hobo With a Shotgun a couple of years ago. And he would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn’t for those pesky kids. The (fictional) children in question played a small but crucial part in the script for Hobo that Eisener, his producer Rob Cotterill, and his writer John Davies...

Many of you will remember the short film Hobo With A Shotgun, directed by Jason Eisener which won the Grindhouse Trailer Contest put on by the SXSW Film Festival & Robert Rodriguez. It all began with an announcement on Ain’t It Cool News, about a contest that gave a three week deadline to come up with a “grindhouse” style trailer for a fake movie and would later appear in between Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof.
Well ever since the Dartmouth filmmakers’ (Jason Eisener, Robert Cotterill and John Davies) won the notorious Trailer Competition in Austin, they have become a favourite among fans of the gore-action-comedy genre garnering more than 500,000 Internet hits. After much anticipation, the talented trio was ready to give Hobo With A Shotgun feature-length treatment and officially announced their plans to do so when they screened their award winning short film Treevenge at the 2008 Fantasia Film Festival.

Magnet Releasing is literally grabbing some of the coolest genre films out there for distribution. This year we saw the company release Survival of the Dead, Centurion, Ong Bak 2, amongst others, and for 2011, we can look forward to their VOD/theatrical releasing of Hobo with a Shotgun, according to THR, along with Ong Bak 3.
Hobo with a Shotgun will premiere at Sundance 2011 from director Jason Eisner, who created a fake Grindhouse trailer for a competition at SXSW Film Festival and now has bad-ass Rutger Hauer starring in a film based on that trailer! “Pure blood-drunk, bat-shit-crazy fun,” said Magnet exec Tom Quinn. “Both Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer were born to make Hobo.”...

Hobo With a Shotgun started life as a trailer for a grindhouse film that didn't exist, and writer/director Jason Eisener spent much of this year shooting an expanded feature version starring Rutger Hauer as the title character. The film is scheduled [1] for the Sundance Film Festival in January, but while there it won't have to go through the rigors of a sale for Us distribution rights. Magnet, the genre arm of Magnolia, has picked up the film for distribution in the Us. THR [2] reports the pickup and quotes Tom Quinn from Magnet calling the film "Pure blood-drunk, bat-shit-crazy fun," elaborating that "both Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer were born to make Hobo." And if you're keeping track of Magnet purchases, this will go nicely alongside Bangkok Knockout [3], Vanishing on 7th Street, Black Death [4] and The Troll Hunter [5]. Assuming the company plans another Six-Shooter Film Series for 2011, we might...

Magnet Releasing has picked up U.S. distribution rights to the genre flick Hobo With A Shotgun. The company plans a release in 2011. The film, which stars Rutger Hauer as a homeless vigilante in an exploitation workout, will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month as part of the Park City at Midnight section. Jason Eisener, who screened a short film at the festival in 2009, directed the feature project. The helmer won a contest at the SXSW film festival to create an original trailer like those featured in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double-feature Grindhouse, and he then expanded it into this full-length feature. As a throwback exercise in grindhouse gore, the movie features Hauer as a drifter who wanders into a crime-ridden town, decides he's had enough and takes after the local crime boss with a shotgun. Pure blood-drunk, bat-shit-crazy fun," said Magnet's Tom Quinn.
