...because that Friday time slot is like a death sentence. I watched my first episode of this show last night and I averaged at least one good laugh every two minutes. Most of the critics I've read, like E! online, TV guide, and most major city newspapers have given the show good reviews. I agree with them that it's well written. But unfortunately that's not always enough to get people interested in watching a show. It's constantly compared to "Malcolm in the Middle" because of the camera style and the zany family situation. However, I never cared much for Malcolm. It felt too self-conscious, pretentious, and the family members were portrayed as relatively normal people who happened to possess quirks, which I guess I didn't find as appealing as on this show. The family members on Maybe aren't normal people with quirks, they're just downright weird. And I like that approach a lot better. Plus, I think Molly is easier to relate to than Malcolm. Whether it's natural, or because it's her acting, she comes across as a very likeable and sympathetic character.
