The original Broadway production of "Philadelphia, Here I Come" by Brian Friel opened at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York on February 16, 1966, ran for 326 performances and was nominated for the 1966 Tony Award for the Best Play. Eamon Morrissey recreated his stage role in this filmed production and had received a nomination for a 1966 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
This was filmed in 1971, but would not be shown until 1975.
