I saw this just last night, as a coincidence (don't all good movies not appear in theaters but on the culture channel on those off-beat hours?) and i kind of like it. For a dutch movie (and we as dutch do not have that much great movies to look back on) this is up to par with any decent Hollywood movie. It's actually a typical thom Hoffman movie, if you know what i mean and actually doesn't center around him all that much.
Of course, the whole aspect of building a story to grip the viewer (girl rises up in the ranks of mafia) and then falling down again (why do movies never end with a successful mafia or criminal career? is quite cliché, and you know you're in for a depressing ending. I always vouch for the bad guys so that hurts.
I did not know bettina martens was a real person, but i believe she was some informant who played a pivotal role in the irt-affaire in the late 90's. Of course, the movie is way to slick to actually believe, but it's still great television. Thekla reuten is good, although a bit over the top in the end (you got nothing!! ) which really is not necessary at all. I liked the mafia boss.
