When NBC recently resurrected its long-dormant “Deal or No Deal,” it came with a new format: “Deal or No Deal Island.” The game show was originally a “shiny floor” in-studio contest where players had to guess how much money was inside a large briefcase. The updated iteration takes things outdoors, raising the stakes by adding interpersonal dynamics, physical challenges and survival to the mix.

The Investigation Discovery series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV may shock people who have nostalgic recollections of watching kid-focused Nickelodeon TV shows like All That, The Amanda Show, and Drake & Josh.
With its in-depth examination of some of the toxic culture of children’s TV shows that young actors endured in the 1990s and 2000s—including numerous series produced by Dan Schneider—the docuseries is already garnering attention. Along with discussing the purportedly unsettling atmosphere behind the scenes, it also includes interviews with former cast members, writers, and crew from the popular Nickelodeon series All That, The Amanda Show, and Zoey 101.
Dan Schneider (Image via YouTube)
Details of Schneider’s alleged misbehavior towards Nickelodeon employees were made public in 2018 and 2022; nevertheless, the Memphis-born TV producer, 58, has denied any wrongdoing.

Exclusive: Netflix has found its new unscripted chief.
The streamer has hired Jeff Gaspin as VP Unscripted Series after a search for a high-profile figure to lead its burgeoning reality business.
It comes after Deadline revealed that Jenn Levy left the company last month and Brandon Riegg, who is VP Nonfiction Series, to whom Gaspin will report, started a search for top unscripted chief.
There were plenty of big unscripted names in the running for the position and Riegg is understood to have enquired about a number of execs overseeing unscripted for the broadcast networks and major studios.
Gaspin is a big get for Netflix given that he was previously Chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment from 2009-11.
However, his hire is less surprising considering he has been in business with Netflix and Riegg on a number of shows. He exec produced The Tinder Swindler, a true-crime series that was...

Hosted by partners Darryl M. Bell and Tempestt Bledsoe, the show has three duos competing against each other in blood-churning mazes to get their hands on the medal or “die.” A scream meter measures their screams, along with some rules to help the best duo win. “Abbott Elementary” garnered a lot of comparisons to “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” when it debuted in 2021, and for a good reason. The Quinta Brunson-created ABC comedy utilizes the workplace mockumentary format that made those shows stand out, and more specifically, it shares with them a key creative: director and producer Randall Einhorn. But when it came to developing “Abbott,” Einhorn felt that the device needed some updating.
“We wanted the teachers to appear favorably, because they’re doing a thankless task for very little money,” Einhorn says, noting the contrast with Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, whose incompetence anchors the American version of “The Office.” “We wanted them to look like heroes. That’s why this looks different than ‘The Office,’ which comes with low ceilings and floor lights. It’s like a place where you serve time, whereas I really wanted ‘Abbott’ to feel warm and inviting,...

Mumbai, Aug 15 (Ians) Achieving a major feat, a 42-year-old executive Yogesh Patil, suffering from Autosomal Disorder successfully conquered the gruelling Ironman triathlon in Germany, recently.
Working with Schneider Electrics (India), Patil cracked the tough challenge along with two others from Maharashtra — Nagesh Utekar of Mumbai and Sharda Kulkarni of Pune — organised as the European Challenge in Hamburg this year.
The Ironman triathlon first became famous in India after Bollywood actor Milind Soman completed it in 2015, and till date barely an estimated 200 Indians have earned laurels for the country.
Patil was formerly suffering from very high blood pressure in 2006-2007, making him off-bounds for such high-paced, racy adventures events, but he steeled himself to overcome the disease and barely 18 years later, emerged as a strong ‘Ironman’.

Banijay has taken full control of Endemol Shine India.
The move sees the Big Brother and MasterChef indie giant buying out CA Media’s 49% shareholding in Endemol Shine India for an undisclosed amount.
Banijay Asia CEO Deepak Dhar takes on the same role at Endemol Shine India, with the fate of former Chief Exec Rishi Negi not immediately clear at press time. Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India will effectively become much closer and sit alongside each other under Dhar’s purview.
Dhar previously led Endemol’s Indian business between 2005 and 2018, before becoming the founder of Banijay Asia as a joint venture with Banijay. He now oversees the wider group’s content strategies, partnerships, new business and alliances. CA Media had owned 49% of Endemol Shine India since 2012.
According to Banijay, Dhar will “finesse the structure” of Banijay in Asia in coming weeks and create new group-wide roles and dedicated creative positions at the two labels.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the horror reality special “Can You Survive a Horror Movie?” which aired on Chiller TV for Friday the 13th in July 2012.
By the early aughts, the horror cable network Chiller TV had reached the point to where they were trotting out their own original series’ and movies. Among them was their heavily advertised attempt at a reality series entitled “Can You Survive a Horror Movie?” The premise of the one off special was essentially “Fear Factor” and “Mythbusters” mixed with a hard shot of horror. The hosts would not only test certain situations in the horror genre, but also partook in “challenges” related to horror movies. It didn’t actually dissect the genre, or bring it down to reality as much as, say, “The Zombie Survival Guide.” Instead, it was unabashedly a horror reality show.

The charm of "Underwater" lies in its simplicity: there are few surprises in this aquatic horror movie because it so earnestly harkens back to sci-fi classics. Reminiscent of "Alien," the 2020 film sees a crew of six trapped in a flooding structure seven miles below the ocean's surface. Despite impossible odds, they've got no choice but to don pressurized suits and walk to safety, across the ocean floor. Drowning later turns out to be the least of their worries, as they learn that they're also being stalked by mysterious sea predators, more than capable of taking them all out. So what's the scariest part of this deep-sea slasher? It's not the dwindling number of living crew members, the frightening sea creatures, or even the claustrophobia. For Kristen Stewart, it was the water. Nothing else came close.
Stewart has not been one to mince words about her difficult experience shooting "Underwater." To...

The tonal demands of a romantic-comedy tearjerker prove far too much to handle for director Michael Showalter in “Spoiler Alert,” an awkward and uncertain adaptation of TV critic Michael Ausiello’s memoir, which deals with the illness of Ausiello’s longterm partner Kit Cowan.
Many of the scenes here seem to have been shot in a spirit of tense desperation; the comedy doesn’t land, the romance takes too long to get going, and the tearjerking scenes are spoiled by a meta framework that makes Showalter’s job even more difficult.
“Spoiler Alert” starts with Ausiello (Jim Parsons) embracing a very sick Cowan in a hospital bed, and this leads to a flashback to their first meeting 14 years or so earlier. We see Ausiello at his job at TV Guide, where he is asked to write more about “Fear Factor” instead of “Gilmore Girls,” and then we see him out...

Looking back at the world of comic book movies in the mid-2000s almost feels like a glimpse into an alternate reality. Chris Evans was best known to nerdy moviegoers as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four while Ben Affleck was perhaps best forgotten as Matt Murdock in 2003’s Daredevil. In an era before the arrival of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, big, brash and mostly very bad comic book adaptations were commonplace.
Yet fans were arguably spared the biggest and brashest of them all following an online protest, the kind of which would soon become all-too-common within the world of fandom. For it was during the midpoint of that decade—a crossroads during which Christopher Nolan and Sam Raimi were still making the most popular superhero movies and Fox was “ending” the X-Men franchise with Brett Ratner—that plans were put into motion for a Green Lantern movie starring Jack Black.

So much for “puke, rally, repeat” because the MTV reality series Floribama Shore won’t be returning for a fifth season. According to Deadline, the future of the series is being evaluated. Initially, cast members Aimee Hall, Candace Rice, Jeremiah Buoni, Codi Butts, Nilsa Prowant, Gus Smyrnios, and Kirk Medas lived together in a house on the Florida panhandle, but in recent seasons, due to the coronavirus pandemic, filming relocated to Missoula, Montana and Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The series has been filled with all sorts of drama, and that drama continued off the show on Fear Factor in a grotesque competition against members of Jersey Shore. There will be one person who won’t be too sad about the cancellation of this educational program, and that’s the mayor of Panama City Beach, Mike Thomas who, after the cast moved from Pcb to St. Petersburg, Florida was quoted as...

Match #1: Jay Lethal def. Dax Harwood The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
Dax knocked Lethal to the mat with a shoulder tackle. Lethal countered with an up-kick. The two opponents chain wrestled. Lethal cartwheeled and then dropkicked Harwood. Dax and Jay traded chops in the corner! Dax tossed Lethal overhead with a big back body drop! Lethal shoved Harwood off the top turnbuckle. Lethal was looking for a double sledge but Dax countered and then hit three German Suplexes on Lethal. Lethal came back with the Lethal combination for a near fall on Dax Harwood.

Trevor Noah was horrified Monday night while rolling a montage of Joe Rogan “dropping the ‘N’ word like he bought it in bulk at Costco,” as the “Daily Show” host put it.
“That’s a lottt of the ‘N’ word,” Noah said. “And with the hard ‘-er,’ as well, which is never a good thing.”
“If there’s ever a video of you saying the ‘N’ word That many times, you better pray one of two things: Either, you’re a Black person or you’re a dead man from history. Because then the worst thing they can do is take your statue down — and move it into a museum,” the South African comedian continued.
More so than even Rogan’s liberal use of the “N” word, Noah was upset by an old podcast clip in which the former “Fear Factor” host described going to see the movie “Planet of the Apes...

Young went through on his threat later in the week, and his longtime friends Joni Mitchell, Graham Nash, and Nils Lofgren have since made the same move. Young’s estranged former bandmate David Crosby said he would have also yanked his catalog had he not sold it last year. (Stephen Stills,...

Tech stocks and the beleaguered Nasdaq jumped today in a rally led by streamers Spotify, Netflix and Roku. All have seen their shares pummeled, with Netflix in particular being hit by disappointing subscriber numbers last quarter and Spotify embroiled in a Joe Rogan controversy.
Spotify is up 12% at $193, Netflix by more than 10% at $493 and Roku nearly 7% (at $161). The broader Nasdaq, which entered official “correction” territory in Jan. – defined by a dip of at last 10% – is up by 2.63%.
Netflix shares were stomped after its fourth-quarter earnings, plunging over 20%. Votes of confidence in the form of share purchases by Bill Ackman’s hedge fund Pershing Square and by founder and co-ceo Reed Hastings, who bought on the dip, helped the shares rally. Then Citigroup analyst Jason Bazinet upgraded the stock to “buy” this morning. He told CNBC that the current price, which has come down from a $52-week high of $700 in the fall,...

A partially contrite Joe Rogan admitted today that he doesn’t “always get it right” on his podcast and promised to “do better” going forward as Spotify scrambled to contain the growing backlash to the ex-Fear Factor host’s take on Covid-19 vaccines.
The same day that CEO Daniel Ek announced adding content warnings and disclaimers to the streaming service, Rogan took to social media to “address some of the controversy taking place over the past several days” with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell pulling their tunes off Spotify. The duo have a big problem with Rogan’s vaccine “misinformation,” as Young called it.
Today, self-proclaimed Neil Young fan Rogan said he was “very sorry” the iconic musicians felt they had to get off Spotify because of him. “I most certainly don’t want that,” Rogan declared Sunday. Copping to the fact a lot of what he says on...

Trevor Noah was pretty shocked by podcaster Joe Rogan’s opinion that it’s “weird” to use the term “Black” to describe someone who is not literally the color black. But then “The Daily Show” host immediately found the “bright side” of Rogan’s take during his recent podcast with Jordan Peterson, a Canadian clinical psychologist known for his conservative-leaving takes on issues like gender identity.
On Tuesday’s “Joe Rogan Experience,” the former “Fear Factor” host and his guest discussed the use of words like “white” and “Black” as they apply — or don’t — to one’s skin color.
“The ‘Black’ and ‘white’ thing is so strange … because there’s such a spectrum of shades of people,” Rogan said during a conversation with Peterson. “Unless you’re talking to someone who is, like, 100% African, from the darkest place where they’re not wearing clothes all day and they’ve...

After Ted Cruz called Big Bird “government propaganda” on Twitter because that fictional character’s account tweeted about the Covid-19 vaccine, “Saturday Night Live” saw an opportunity to create a fictional new kids’ show from the senator. Titled “Cruz Street” and hosted by Aidy Bryant as Cruz, that sketch opened the Nov. 13 episode of NBC’s late-night comedy show.
“For 50 years I stood by as ‘Sesame Street’ taught out kids dangerous ideas like numbers and kindness, but when Big Bird told children to get vaccinated against a deadly disease, I said, ‘Enough’ and I created my own ‘Sesame Street,'” Bryant’s Cruz said.
Andrew Dismukes, Melissa Villaseñor and Bowen Yang played kids on “Cruz Street” who sang the theme song with lyrics that included, “Cruzy days/sweeping the libs away/and he hopes you’ll say/that his beard looks sweet.” Bryant’s Cruz followed that up with, “Grab an eagle and a gun,...

Following a week in which Ted Cruz grabbed headlines for his Twitter attacks on Big Bird for spreading vaccine “propaganda,” Saturday Night Live used its cold open to skewer the Texas senator.
Aidy Bryant stepped in to play Cruz, hosting his own, far-right version of Sesame Street, Cruz Street, featuring guests such as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Joe Rogan.
“When Big Bird told children get vaccinated against a deadly disease, I said, ‘Enough,’ and I created my own Sesame Street called Cruz Street,” Cruz said. “It’s a gated community. Kids are safe from the world government.”
As SNL had it, Cruz Street is among the offerings of Newsmax Kids, and follows White Power Rangers in the program lineup.
The first guest on Cruz Street was Greene, with Cecily Strong, automatic weapon in hand, returning as the Georgia congresswoman.

At three installments into the season, two things are undeniably true.
One, the Blue team will lose challenges and eff up dinner service, and two, their signature dish is raw chicken.
For a bonus, we can also add that Antonio won't know when and how to Stfu. After everything that transpired on Hell's Kitchen Season 20 Episode 3, including Chickengate, it's hard to envision the Blue Team ever redeeming themselves any time soon.
It's a wonder Chef Ramsay hasn't busted a gasket with all of the things he's dealing with because of these young guns. May whatever entity have mercy on any of the patrons of Hell's Kitchen who land on the Blue side of the restaurant.
I'm not sure anyone over there has managed to consume a single meal. The real surprise is that there aren't any hangry customers storming the serving station, demanding to know what the hell is happening back there.

G. Gordon Liddy, a central Watergate figure who spent more than four years in prison but went on to appear in a number of TV series, a few films and hosted a radio talk show for two decades, died Tuesday in Virginia, his son Thomas told media outlets. He was 90.
Unrepentant till the end, the imposing, mustachioed Liddy led the “Plumbers,” President Nixon’s secret White House group, but was not among those caught burglarizing the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate complex in June 1972. Still, he was tried on conspiracy and burglary charges as the mastermind of the scheme. Also convicted of refusing to testify at the Watergate hearings, he served more than 51 months in federal prison.
He famously did not implicate Nixon, but the 37th president of the United States was forced to resign in August 1974 amid the growing scandal.

G. Gordon Liddy, the colorful chief operative in the Watergate scandal who went to prison for his crimes and later cut a wide swatch across pop culture as a talk show host and actor, has died. He was 90.
His son, Thomas P. Liddy, confirmed his death to the Washington Post, but did not provide a cause.
Liddy held many roles during his lifetime, including as a lawyer, FBI agent, talk show host and actor. However, he is best known as the chief operative in the Nixon administration’s White House Plumbers unit, which organized and carried out a burglary of the DNC headquarters in the Watergate building. The scandal rocked American politics and led to Nixon’s resignation from the presidency in 1974. Liddy was ultimately convicted of conspiracy, burglary, illegal wiretapping and refused to testify during the Senate committee hearing on the scandal. As a result, Liddy served over four years in prison.

The CMA Awards aimed to be a triumphant affair as the first major live, in-person awards show since the Covid-19 pandemic struck the US in March. But must the show really go on? The ceremony took place with nominees, performers, presenters, and hosts Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker gathered together at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee, but performers dropped left and right due to positive Covid diagnoses in the days leading up to the event. What did you think of how the show went forward? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Lots of award shows have adapted to the pandemic. The Daytime Emmys and Primetime Emmys were handed out remotely. The ACM Awards were held in separate venues with empty stands. The MTV Video Music Awards included outdoor and drive-in performances. And those shows didn’t have a slew of Covid cases leading up to their big nights.
