AaronCapenBanner28 May 2015
Exciting first of 2-part episode sees Lindsay Wagner debut as Jamie Sommers, and old hometown flame of Steve Austin's(Lee Majors) that he becomes reacquainted with after visiting his mother(Martha Scott) and stepfather. They rekindle their former romance and fall in love, with plans of getting married, but cruel fate intervenes as Jamie is crippled in a skydiving accident, though a desperate Steve insists that Oscar(Richard Anderson) and Rudy Wells(Alan Oppenheimer) give her bionics as well, the third such operation, and first for a woman. It succeeds. but an old foe(played by Malachi Throne) has plans of revenge against them before their upcoming wedding...

The bionic woman part 1
coltras3528 September 2023
Steve Austin buys a ranch in his hometown Ojai, California. He reunites with childhood friend Jaime Sommers who is now a professional tennis player. They rekindle a brief childhood romance. Sommers is injured in a skydiving accident when her parachute collapses toward the end of a jump. Her right arm, right ear, and both legs are severely damaged. With Jaime's life in peril, Steve Austin persuades a reluctant Oscar Goldman to fit her with bionics. Although skeptical at first, Jaime Sommers quickly acclimates to her mechanized components. The bond deepens between the two bionic humans. Steve Austin proposes marriage to Jaime Sommers, and she accepts.

An exciting start of a two parter finds Austin reacquainting with the past, hod hometown, ranch life with his mother stepfather and he rekindles a romance with Jaimie who is excellently played by Lindsay Wagner. Austin gets a touch of deja vu when she breaks her bones in a skydiving accident and is constructed with Bionics.

The Introduction of Jamie Sommers Gave the Six Million Dollar Man a Bionic Boost!!
voicemaster7131 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Although this is considered the unofficial pilot for the Bionic Woman series, I look at it in its original form as a 2 part episode of the Six Million Dollar Man series that debuted Lindsay Wagner as Jamie Sommers. Col. Steve Austin returns to his hometown and while there, he meets and rekindles his youthful romance with tennis pro, Jamie Sommers, whom Steve's parents always loved. They become engaged and then comes the tragic skydiving accident in which Jamie would be made bionic with one arm, both legs, and one ear, but not before Steve has to do some tearful pleading with Osacar Goldman. One of the most priceless moments in this special episode is seeing Steve and Jamie running together at Bionic Speed. Sadly, Jamie's body rejects her bionics and she runs out into a thunderstorm and Steve goes after her. Sadly, Jamie dies at the end. But thankfully, her popularity convinced the network and writers to resurrect Jamie in the third season of the Six Million Dollar Man, but her memories along with her romance with Steve were erased, which was a way to get her ready for her own series later that year.

I compare the Bionic Woman episode to that of the Incredible Hulk's 2 hour second season premiere episode Married with Marriette Hartley. Producer Kenneth Johnson wrote both of these episodes and had both Lindsay and Mariette die in storms. So the leading men, Lee Majors and Bill Bixby would lose their loves. Only difference is, Jamie eventually comes back.

I really feel that the introduction of the Bionic Woman really helped to increase the popularity of the Six Million Dollar Man series and I highly recommend this episode if you find it on DVD.

The Bionic Woman pilot episode on DVD and Blu-Ray should happen soon
KevinB1228 January 2010
The Bionic Woman pilot episode from the Six Million Dollar Man is excellent. Even though I have that on video tape or VHS. I think this Bionic Woman pilot episode should not only be on DVD, but on BLU-RAY as well. The DVD and Blu-Ray versions should be digitally remastered in enhanced version and digital sound with new sound effects, just as they did that in the Star Wars Trilogy. Not only that, but also have The Return of the Bionic Woman also on Blu-Ray and DVD. I would suggest that this should happen soon because they did not have that Bionic Woman pilot episode and the Return Of The Bionic Woman on DVD and Blu-Ray. VHS is already done in 2005, So I would suggest that it should happen on DVD and Blue-Ray.

Terrible Series
MAWasley11 August 2009
Sorry, terrible series, not patch off the Six Million Dollar Man. I bought the DVD's for my grand children and even they didn't like it. The bionic woman is just a comic book series created by Universal Studies - she was never mentioned in the Martin Caidin novels. By and large I think it is the fault of the actress Lindsay Wagner- she lacks sparkle. A better actress for the role would have been the late Farrah Fawcett of if she had been of age at the time, Sandra Bullock. Both had that sparkle with a touch of mischievousness. My grand children call her "Miss Goody Two Shoes with a touch of bossiness". A bit of a whiner as well. Also amnesia or not, if the gorgeous Steve Austin had told me I was his fiancée, I certainly would not have argued.

There is only one bionic person and that is the athletic Steve Austin played to perfection by Lee Majors.
