While I was watching this, I kept thinking 'It FEELS like a director's first feature length movie' and you know what? I WAS RIGHT!! GO ME... GO ME... Ahem. Sorry about that... nothing like a good dose of self praise.
There's not much to say about this... just a precocious child and her next door neighbour going on a little field trip to meet her real dad. She carries a goldfish with her everywhere, she thinks her father is James Dean and whenever she opens her mouth, it's like she's auditioning for Kids Say The Funniest Things.
As you can tell, It's a bit too self-consciously wacky for my tastes, and the story never really goes anywhere. But the young actress who plays the main character is a cutie, and there's nothing terrible here which might dissuade future producers from hiring the director. Looking at his CV for the last 12 years though, maybe I was wrong... 5/10.
