The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the cable channel AMC has acquired the rights to the Image Comics series “The Walking Dead” for turning the zombie comic into a TV series. Frank Darabont has been attached to write and direct as well as be an executive producer for “The Walking Dead”, which he has been developing before AMC picked it up. Darabont has directed “The Mist”, “The Majestic”, “The Green Mile”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, and also wrote the screenplay for “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.” “The Walking Dead”, created by Robert Kirkman for Image Comics, premiered in 2003 and has gone onto critical acclaim as it [...] »

AMC is bringing Image Comics’ graphic novel series The Walking Dead to the small screen, signing Frank Darabont to write and direct a series adaptation. Darabont and producer Hurd pitched the project to AMC and several other outlets. Dead, written by Robert Kirkman, is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live. Numerous editions of the Walking Dead graphic novels have been published since 2003. Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior vice president of programming, production and original content, said the project appealed to the network because of "the quality of the storytelling" in Kirkman's work.
