- Sarah Michelle Gellar had to film Scooby-Doo around her already hectic "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) schedule. The producers of both productions arranged it that she would spend two weeks in Los Angeles shooting Buffy, then the next two weeks in Queensland, Australia filming Scooby-Doo.
- The production used all the sound stages that the studio had.
- Sarah Michelle Gellar hated wearing Daphne's pink go-go boots and would change into comfy sneakers whenever she was able. The sneakers can be seen in one shot (see goofs).
- On the TV show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997), Buffy and her friends are occasionally called "The Scooby Gang." The role of Buffy on the show is played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who plays Daphne in this film.
- In the first trailer Scooby Doo is in the shadows, with his ears making him look like Batman.
- The scenes filmed in Australia where filmed at Bond University, in the Gold Coast, which is known to have perfect weather 350 days a year. Unfortunately, Velma (Linda Cardellini) got a cold, and filming had to be stopped for a day.
- The bunny suit is Filler bunny of the Jhonen Vasquez comics.
- Frank Welker, who is the original and only voice of Freddy Jones in the cartoons, provides his voice to one of the evil creatures in this movie
- Charles Cousins' character was called Metal Head in all of the promotional material, but was merely called Velma's Friend in the movie credits.
- The idea of a Scooby-Doo movie languished in "development hell" throughout most of the 1990s. At one point, director Kevin Smith was attached, but later dropped out. Later, Mike Myers accepted the project and was the one who most often had his name linked to it (Myers' friend Janeane Garofalo was supposedly tapped by Myers to play Velma). Eventually, even Myers had to leave the project.
- Shaggy is a strict vegetarian in this film. See the trivia for _"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" (1969)_ .
- Before Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby enter the castle, Shaggy calls Scooby Hong Kong Phooey, a reference to another Hannah-Barbera cartoon.
- Scrappy Doo's middle name is Cornelius.
- N' Goo Tuana introduces Zarkos, the Masked Wrestler as having been seen on Telemundo. Telemundo is an actual Spanish TV channel.
- Many Harry Potter fans went to see the film just to see the trailer for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002).
- The band Weezer was asked to make appearances "as actors" but rejected the offer.
- This movie had been in development since 1996, at that time Jim Carrey was attached to play Shaggy and 'Sara Gilbert (I)' was attached to play Thelma.
- The band Sugar Ray make a guest appearance in the Pool Party scene.
- In the scene where Fred, Velma and Daphne meet up at the airport, there was originally a flashback for each of them showing what they had all been doing: Fred on a book tour, Velma in a support group and Daphne learning Martial Arts. The flashbacks were cut out because the director thought they dragged out the scene.
- There was an alternate opening, showing the cartoon versions of the characters but it was cut for time.
- Originally, Matthew Lillard would scream for a very long time to make his voice all hoarse to do a perfect Shaggy imitation. It didn't work out, so he began trying to imitate the voice he did when his voice was all tired out from all the screaming.
- Freddie Prinze Jr. hated wearing the trademark ascot Fred usually wore in the original cartoons.
- Isla Fisher, who plays Mary-Jane, had to wear a blond wig because she was a red head. Sarah Michelle Gellar was supposed to be the only red head in the movie.

- SPOILER: Originally, Scrappy Doo was the not going to be the main villain. At the end of the film, Old Man Smithers aka "the Luna Ghost" from the beginning of the movie was going to be behind the event of the film.
