Producers of the independent feature Pay the Price sued 20th Century Fox on Tuesday for allegedly stealing their story line and using it to make Drumline. Writer-director Darryl D. Lassiter, who says Pay the Price was based on his experiences in a black college marching band at Alabama State University in the early 1980s, and producer David L. Gough accused the studio of copyright infringement and unfair competition. "There is absolutely no merit to the plaintiffs' claim," Fox spokeswoman Flo Grace said. "Drumline is an original film created entirely independently of the plaintiffs' work. We will vigorously defend this suit and expect to prevail."...
