- Stud Perkins: Where you from?
- Fred Claret: I beg your pardon?
- Stud Perkins: I said "where you from"?
- Fred Claret: Manhattan.
- Marcy Perkins: We thought you were a tourist.
- Fred Claret: No. I was born here in New York City.
- Marcy Perkins: [to Stud] Okay, baby. You owe me five bucks.
- Stud Perkins: I'll give it you ya later.
- Marcy Perkins: You always say that. I want it now!
- Stud Perkins: Jesus! Okay, here!
- [places a $5 note on the bar counter]
- Marcy Perkins: [to Fred] I won. He always gets mad when I win.
- Fred Claret: What you win?
- Marcy Perkins: The bet about you when you walked in. Stud and I always bet on people when they come into this bar. He bet you were a tourist and I bet you were a New Yorker. You see, what confused us is that you looked like you didn't know your way around.
- Salina Claret: [answering a telephone] Hello? Yes? Yes, Mother, what is it?
- [pause]
- Salina Claret: No, we haven't had dinner yet. Well, we were just... we were just resting. Well, you can join us for dinner but we're not having much right now. No, you don't have to bring dessert. No Mother, we don't want any.
- [pause]
- Salina Claret: I know it's close to where you live, but... oh, all right have you own way.
- [pause]
- Salina Claret: About a half hour. All right. We'll see you then. Goodbye.
- [hangs up]
- [first lines]
- Salina Claret: Hand me the soap.
- Fred Claret: Get it yourself.
- Salina Claret: Please, Fred.
- Fred Claret: Reach for it
- [she reaches as he holds the bar of soap away]
- Fred Claret: You taste of soap.
- Salina Claret: Well, what do you expect in the bathroom?
- Fred Claret: I don't like the taste of soap.
- Salina Claret: Scratch my back.
- Fred Claret: Where?
- Salina Claret: Right here, in the center
- [he does]
- Salina Claret: Oh, that feels good.
- Fred Claret: You've got a blackhead here.
- Salina Claret: [giddy] Get it out, Dr. Claret.
- Fred Claret: Bend over, Nurse Salina
- [last lines]
- Minnie Cry: You can't sit around like this and mope all the time. It's been six months since he disappeared. He's just run out on you, that's all. He's probably in South America or someplace like that. I told you he was a poor risk, didn't I? But you wouldn't listen.
- [Salina starts crying; Minnie sits down in the chair at the kitchen table beside her]
- Minnie Cry: Now, that's not gonna do you any good. I told you there was something wrong with him. But you wouldn't listen. You know what I think?
