Listen To Genius Producer Jeremy Thomas

I knew there was a reason that David Cronenberg’s enigmatic film of J.G. Ballard’s Crash is one of my favorite motion pictures. So its producer, Oscar-winner Jeremy Thomas (The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky, Naked Lunch, Sexy Beast, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Tideland, Fast Food Nation, and Creation), was the keynote speaker at Film Independent’s 5th annual Filmmaker Forum [...] »

Noyce returning to South Africa / Portman Set to Star in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan / Sean Penn Taking a Break From Hollywood.

Phillip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger, Rabbit-Proof Fence) is set to return to South Africa with a new thriller entitled Mixed Blood.  Not a shocking choice for the Australian filmmaker considering his last directorial effort Catch a Fire.  Based off the Roger Smith novel of the same name, the film will center on an American fugitive trying to protect his family while drawing the attention of kidnapers, murderers and crooked cops.  Samuel L Jackson is reportedly on board in a supporting role and Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows your Dead) adapted the screenplay.  Noyce is currently helming the Angelina Jolie vehicle Salt, set for a 2010 release.          Darren Aronofsky appears to be moving back and fourth between two major projects: the highly anticipated Robocop remake and Black Swan.  The later film has been described as a supernatural thriller set around the competitive world of New York ballet.  The Hollywood Reporter »

Celebrate Australia Day with three movies from Down Under

26 January 2009 5:32 AM, PST | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Happy Australia Day! Yes today is the official day of celebration for our cousins Down Under as they remember the First Fleet (11 British ships) that arrived in New South Wales back in 1788. It’s an official public holiday complete with an address from the Prime Minister and so we thought we’d commemorate it here at Boxwish. But where to start with Oz’s rich and varied cinematic legacy? By doffing our cap to the many Australian stars that populate Hollywood such as Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Naomi Watts and Eric Bana to name but a small sample? Or the directors such as Baz Luhrmann, Peter Weir and George Miller? Nope, we’re getting merry with three Aussie-produced movies that each captures a different aspect of the country.

Australia… goes on a road trip

Buckle up; it’s going to be a camp ride with 1994’s The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert. »
