For the first nine years of its existence, WrestleMania was ruled by one man.
Hulk Hogan was involved in each of the first nine ‘Mania main events, and he came out on top all but once. Heck, even when he wasn’t in the official match that had been signed as the main event, he still came out the winner. From the very first WrestleMania until WrestleMania IX in 1993, Hulkamania did indeed run wild.
This is to be expected, as Hulk was by far the biggest star in the company in the late 80s and early 90s. If you think John Cena has been protected over the last few years, just take one look at Hogan’s streak during this time. He lost clean to the Ultimate Warrior (kicking out at 3.1 in the process) at WrestleMania VI, and off the top of my head this is the only truly...

Traditionally, the main event of WrestleMania is the one match that fans should be expected to get excited for. Think back to ‘Mania X-Seven, when The Rock collided with Steve Austin, or even WrestleMania VI, when Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior met in a match dubbed ‘The Ultimate Challenge’. Those were matches to build the entire pay-per-view around.
Then, there’s the other side of the coin. For example, which match from WrestleMania 13 do people remember most fondly, Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart or The Undertaker vs. Sycho Sid? Of course, it was the double turn, blood-soaked battle between Austin and Hart, yet that wasn’t the main event on the show. Instead, ‘Taker and Sid struggled to follow on from the wonderful antics of their peers.
Fast forward to 2016, and it looks like the main event of WrestleMania 32 will similarly struggle to justify its...

This past Monday’s Raw featured one of the biggest moments of 2015, when Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Several factors contributed to WWE’s decision to put the title on Reigns that night instead of at another event or at another location.
It was certainly a surprise, since seeing a championship title change hands on an episode of Raw is no longer a common occurrence, and it’s especially rare for that title to be the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. When fans think of breakout moments for some of the biggest superstars in WWE history, the stage in which those events take place is pay-per-view instead of WWE’s flagship show.
And when that breakout moment involves the next face of the company, the occasion becomes that much more special since there are only a handful of those moments that exist. Some of...

Hulk Hogan has one of the most impressive win/loss records in all of professional wrestling. Between 1984 and 2000, when the guy’s political power was at its zenith, a Hulk Hogan match was more likely to end via interference from a shoot unicorn than the Hulkster allowing his sacred shoulders to touch canvas for three consecutive seconds.
That’s not to say that it didn’t happen. It did, exactly 26 times, by my reckoning. I’m not counting disqualifications or count-outs or handicap matches or battle royal eliminations, either; this select number of times, Hogan was pinned or submitted according to the rules of the match.
Thanks to Hogan’s infamous creative control, however, these losses often threaten to destroy the tenuous suspension of disbelief that pro wrestling depends upon. For example, a Hulk Hogan loss may require fans to accept the existence of supernatural powers, vast international conspiracies,...

The 30th annual Showcase of the Immortals wrapped just a little over a week ago, and since that time it has been receiving mostly high praise. It’s been lauded for the rise of Daniel Bryan. It provided us with the absolute shock of the Undertaker’s streak coming to an end. And most importantly it seems to have been the launching pad for a whole new era of WWE programming and storytelling. Some folks have even praised the event as being one of the greatest in history.
Now, that’s all well and good, because WrestleMania XXX was fantastic. However, there is only one Mania that can truly be called the greatest, and perhaps surprisingly, it only took six years to reach that pinnacle.

The wrestling world was enormously shocked this week with news of the sudden death of Jim “Ultimate Warrior” Hellwig.
It’s amazing to consider that his career in the WWF could have taken such a different path had he gone to Japan as a headliner. With the untimely passing of the Ultimate Warrior on Tuesday, wrestling fans around the world expressed their admiration for a man who was born Jim Hellwig but spent years as a superhero from Parts Unknown. With his face painted with the famous logo, the Ultimate Warrior had an intensity that has never been matched in a wrestling ring. No matter what you thought of his in-ring work, there was no doubt that Warrior was something special and the connection he had with fans was second only to Hulk Hogan.
The Ultimate Warrior worked his way up the WWF roster in the late 1980s and finally defeated the legendary Hogan at WrestleMania VI. That should have been the beginning of his main event run but instead turned out to be his peak. Warrior briefly departed the WWF in 1991 until returning in 1992. It’s typical that coming off one of the greatest WrestleMania finales in history, the wrestling world would have to deal with a sharp comedown — and a jolting dose of heartbreak. He was 54 years old.

WWE star "The Ultimate Warrior," born James Brian Hellwig, has died, it was announced in a statement posted on the WWE website Tuesday. He was 54. No cause of death has been given. Hellwig, who had legally changed his named to "The Ultimate Warrior" in 1993, had carved out an indelible place in wrestling history. With his trademark make-up, which some described as something akin to Kiss, and neon ring garb, along with his flowing blond locks, Warrior began his professional career in 1987. He later rose to the top to defeat Hulk Hogan to earn his spot as WWE champion during their famed WrestleMania VI bout.

In one of wrestling’s biggest tragedies in recent memory, the death of The Ultimate Warrior has been confirmed, just days after his emotional Hall of Fame induction.
TMZ reports that Warrior, who was born Jim Hellwig, collapsed outside his Arizona Hotel at 5:50pm on April 8th while walking to the car with his wife. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.
He was only 54 years-old and had the night before made his return to WWE Monday Night Raw for an in-ring promo. His last previous appearance on WWE’s flagship program was way back in 1996.
As one of the biggest stars of the 90s, The Ultimate Warrior’s passing is likely to be covered mainstream throughout the day and more information is likely to come sporadically available. Nothing else is currently known than the above and it doesn’t seem wise to speculate.

I tried to make a winter pun for the title of this post for a few minutes before realizing GoT deserved better. The reviews are in for Captain America and people love it, saying it’s the best Marvel movie to date too! I don’t know if it can get better than Iron Man 3, but good on them for trying. It seems Marvel has found a way to tell a good story and pull off great action all while having smug characters deliver funny lines; the way super hero movies should be if you ask me.

WrestleMania is fast approaching and superstars will be making plans to impress on the big stage. Everyone that makes it to the Superbowl of wrestling enters with the mission of stealing the show and leaving an impression on the viewer.
Some have made a career of it, whether it be ‘Mr WrestleMania’ Shawn Michaels and his tendency to have the best match of the night or making audiences believe in The Undertaker’s undefeated streak coming to an end or someone trying to steal the spotlight in a multiman match (such as this year’s Battle Royal), there isn’t a single performer who isn’t trying to demand attention.
There is no better way to grab the audiences attention than to do so from the moment a superstar steps through the curtain. This list takes a look back at the best WrestleMania entrances in its 29 year history.

We are fast approaching the 30th annual WrestleMania event and it is the time of year when many wrestling fans look back on the famous event and revisit the moments that, for whatever reason, were memorable to them. Through the years there have been plenty of memorable moments at WrestleMania and dozens of wrestlers have carved themselves into the tree-bark of history with their performance on the grandest stage in professional wrestling. One of those wrestlers, of course, is the man who called himself “The Heartbreak Kid” and was labelled by fans and critics alike as “Mr WrestleMania”. That man is Shawn Michaels, and this DVD/Blu-ray package is about his legacy on WWE’s main stage.

WWE announced that the Ultimate Warrior (born James Brian Hellwig) will headline the 2014 class of WWE Hall of Fame inductees on Monday, Jan 13 after being out of the professional wrestling business for 18 years.
“The Ultimate Warrior was the most intense, colorful, competitive and outspoken Superstar in sports entertainment history, and his contributions to WWE were extraordinary. We are thrilled to induct The Ultimate Warrior into the WWE Hall of Fame,” Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of WWE, said in a statement.
Throughout his wrestling career, Warrior, now 54, won two Intercontinental Championships and participated in one of the most passionate rivalries in professional wrestling with Hulk Hogan. One of Warrior’s most infamous matches was the WWE Championship match in WrestleMania VI, 1990, in which Warrior defeated Hogan to take the title.

When many people think of the great WrestleManias, a select number of events tend to pop up in the mind of most fans. WrestleMania X7 is probably the best WrestleMania of all time and a candidate for the best American wrestling PPV of all time. WrestleMania III is up there thanks to the spectacle of the Silverdome and a rather great event overall. That’s fine and dandy, but I’m going to throw a different WrestleMania into the mix. WrestleMania VII may be the best WrestleMania that nobody talks about.
First, let’s address the elephant in the room and one of the main reasons that most fans tend to shy away from WrestleMania: Gulfsploitation. As we begin the month of October, I fondly remember Halloween Havoc, WCW’s annual fall extravaganza. Halloween Havoc was the one pay-per-view I looked forward to every year since it seemed like the company was inventing some weird gimmick. Some of them worked very well (The Thunderdome or Thunder Cage before the threat of lawsuit), others had mixed results (Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal) and others made me cringe (Chamber of Horrors, Sumo Monster Truck Match). Today, I want to talk about the one Halloween Havoc that didn’t have some weird or insane gimmick match: Halloween Havoc 1990 with the tagline “Terror Rules the Ring”. The card emanated from The Uic Pavilion in Chicago, a location that had held two previous Nwa PPVs: Starrcade 1987 and The Chi-Town Rumble.

"Warrior" was the third of three films I saw Wednesday. At the first movie, I took five pages of notes. At the second, I took four. At "Warrior," I took less than two. In other words: I got lost in this movie. I stopped thinking about the fine points of cinematography, editing, and score and simply gave myself over to the story and characters. Right up until a poorly chosen ending, I was caught up in every twist and turn. This is a fun movie.
