When the Social Security man tracks down Harry to the factory where he is working after he has deserted Rene, he gives Harry's address as "63 Carlisle Crescent, Ravenswike, Yorkshire". The town is a fictitious combination of Ravensthorpe and Heckmondwike, the two main filming locations for the play.
The incidental songs were sung by The Oldham Tinkers, a Lancashire folk group.
The song "Toddlin' Whoam" was based on a Lancashire dialect poem by Edwin Waugh.
