Could Simon Cowell not take a day out of his hectic schedule to (lightly) bang Louis Walsh and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's heads together?
The bickering pair, who should know better, just cannot let bygones be bygones as they publicly entered their latest war of words.
Walsh seems to be at his most content when he's shooting his mouth off about the star, recently igniting their age-old feud by describing her as "lazy" and irrelevant" during his latest interview.
Cheryl took the bait and claimed Walsh - who previously dressed up as the popstar for a laugh - must have "some kind of an obsession" with her, and advised him to use his mouth to "say something positive". Which seems unlikely...
Even Simon Cowell has commented on their spat and likened the pair to Tom and Jerry.

Chris Hardwick is going for the hat trick — of talk shows, that is.
The @midnight and Talking Dead host is teaming with Syfy to create a weekly Nerdist News series, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Related20 Qs: Are The Walking Dead Too Dumb?
Hardwick, who is also the CEO of Nerdist Industries, would not host the half-hour series, but executive-produce it alongside Nerdist collaborator Brandon Monk.
The project — which would focus on the latest trends in technology, science and more — is currently a YouTube series hosted by Jessica Chobot, though a host for the Syfy installment has not yet been chosen.

No more Miss Nice Girl! Emma Stone looked ready to whip the red carpet into shape when she stepped out Friday for the Paris premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in an edgy Lanvin leather dress, a stark contrast to the ladylike elegant yellow Versace gown she wore last night while promoting the action-packed flick in the U.K. And while the 25-year-old actress plays a mere mortal in the movie, she appeared to be a superhero in her own right in the gutsy gown, which she paired with fierce black pumps, also by Lanvin, and Repossi jewelry. Her handsome real-life beau and costar Andrew Garfield was all smiles as he lovingly stood next to the ruby-haired starlet tonight, though the British...

For years, Martin Scorsese’s most famous collaborator was Robert De Niro, who starred in the director’s most iconic movies, including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas. In recent years, the director has formed a similar relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, making five celebrated films. The Departed, their third movie together, finally won Scorsese his elusive Oscar for Best Director, and last year’s The Wolf of Wall Street is currently up for five Oscars, including two each for both men, who also produced the movie.

This is another edition of Short Starts, where we present a weekly short film(s) from the start of a filmmaker or actor’s career. Like most filmmakers of his generation, Martin Scorsese went to film school (Nyu in his case), and there he made a number of shorts during the course of his training and study. A few of these student films survive, including 1963′s What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?, which may be his earliest use of a narrator telling his life story in the first person. This is the structure he uses once again with his latest feature, The Wolf of Wall Street. But the protagonist of that 50-year-old 9-minute effort (which you can find all over YouTube) bears little similarity with the one Leonardo DiCaprio plays in the new movie. Scorsese’s following student film, 1964′s It’s Not Just You, Murray...

James Dean made his unforgettable debut in Elia Kazan's emotionally charged adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic tale of sibling rivalry. It's a reworking of the Cain and Abel tale, with farmboy Dean trying to out-compete his twin brother (the under-rated Richard Davalos) for the affections of their religious-nut father (Raymond Massey). Nice girl Julie Harris has the misfortune to be caught between them, while Jo Van Fleet won an Oscar as the boys' estranged and borderline-deranged mother.

Deanna Durbin: Ephemeral fame (photo: Deanna Durbin in 1981) [See previous post: "Deanna Durbin: 'Sweet Monster.'"] Unlike Greta Garbo, whose mystique remained basically intact following her retirement in 1941, Deanna Durbin’s popularity faded away much like that of the vast majority of celebrities who were removed — or who chose to remove themselves — from public view. Despite the advent of home video and classic-movie cable channels, Durbin remains virtually unknown to the vast majority of those who weren’t around in her heyday in the ’30s and ’40s. Yet, although relatively few in number, she continues to have her ardent fans. There are a handful of websites devoted to Deanna Durbin and her film and recording careers, chiefly among them the appropriately titled "Deanna Durbin Devotees." Fade Out Charles David, Deanna Durbin’s husband of 48 years, died in March 1999, at the age of 92; Institut Pasteur medical researcher Peter H. David is their only son. Durbin also had a daughter,...

‘The Deanna Durbin Unit’ (photo: Robert Cummings, Deanna Durbin, and Charles Laughton in It Started with Eve) [See previous post: "Deanna Durbin Movies Save Universal."] Deanna Durbin and Henry Koster, who has been credited with helping to mold Durbin’s screen persona, collaborated on five movies. Besides Three Smart Girls, there was the inevitable sequel, Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939), in addition to One Hundred Men and a Girl, after which Durbin’s salary was reportedly doubled to $3,000 per week, plus a $10,000 bonus per film; the Cinderella-like First Love (1939), in which, following worldwide publicity, Durbin gets kissed on screen for the first time (Robert Stack was the kisser); Spring Parade (1940), with a Viennese setting and Robert Cummings as her leading man; and It Started with Eve (1941), a light, well-received romantic comedy co-starring Cummings and Charles Laughton. (Universal would also release the 1964 remake, I’d Rather Be Rich, starring Sandra Dee in the Robert Cummings role, Robert Goulet in the Deanna Durbin part,...

Deanna Durbin, a star whose songs and smile made her one of the biggest box office draws of Hollywood’s Golden Age with fans that included Winston Churchill, has died.

This tale of a stereotypical nerd who buys a possessed car plays into the hands of those detractors who label Stephen King's work formulaic. I suspect it was the first time his fans felt cheated
The easiest period of Stephen King's writing to talk about is his early years. Back then, he was carving his own niche. He wasn't universally loved, but he was universally sold, and that was probably enough for him. He had his vices at this point, of course. They were well-hidden – and I'll talk more about that come Tommyknockers time – but they were there. Still, the books came, mainly because he had them squirrelled away. Different Seasons was published between Cujo and Christine, but it was written much earlier, back when King was perhaps more in control of what he was actually doing. Christine was the truth poking out from the lie of Rita Hayworth and The Body.

2012 has been nothing but nice for Anne Hathaway.
After a couple of box office duds (see: One Day and Love and Other Drugs, or make that don’t see them), the congenial brunette is back on top in a big way. First there was her kick ass performance as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises that made us see her in a whole new light. And now Anne is closing out the year with a bang by starring in the big screen adaptation of the musical Les Misérables, complete with award noms. Not only is it a chance for her to showcase impressive singing chops, it’s a role Anne embraced inside and out with a near starvation diet to achieve her character Fantine’s poverty stricken body and completely cropping off her shiny mane. We applaud Annie for her commitment to her craft, when she does something she doesn’t half ass it.

Kara Monaco was the first player voted out of the "Big Brother 14" house. She tells Zap2it in her exit interview that if she has the chance to go back in the house, she's not going to be Ms. Nice Girl anymore.
Did you enjoy Big Brother? Was it everything you were expecting?
"Yeah - I enjoyed it immensely. I think it was a great experience and I'm happy I did it. I just wish I could have stayed longer."
Do you wish you had come into the house a little more guns blazing? Been a bigger personality in the house?
"No, because that is just not me. I don't love to be the center of attention. I think it is better to lay low because you don't want to put a target on your back too early in the game. But, if I could go back in I would go in with guns blazing.

Now, it's time to talk about Originals. When we last saw our new favorite character, Rebekah (Claire Holt), Damon had dumped her in the Salvatore basement with a dagger in her back. Don't worry, Rebekah fans -- her red homecoming dress won't be collecting dust in that dungeon for long.
If you totally love Claire in the role as much as we do, we're certainly not alone! "She has been such a delight for everybody, from the crew and the writers, to everybody at the studio and network level that pays us to do our jobs," executive producer Julie Plec tells us.
That's not the say that they're surprised by how delightful she is.

Hilary Swank may have built an image for herself as a smiley Hollywood sweetheart, but if you mess with her partying or her politics, it's no more Miss Nice Girl.

The actress, who was joined at the celebration by Jean-Claude Van Damme and Seal, has since apologized for her actions and offered to donate her fee to charity. But how, other than Googling strangers who invite her to parties, can she ever be sure that a similar...

The quality of films at the Festival dipped for me somewhat today; combined with overcast skies and oppressive warmth in Edinburgh part of me wished I was at home in a bath of ice water. Things started fairly strong, with an interesting movie from Iceland called Jitters. Its unfortunate tagline is ‘Life is happening right here, right now.’ Thanks for that. I honestly couldn’t remember what the film was about when it started, having ticked it off as one to see weeks ago. Based on the title, I thought it might be a horror movie.
About halfway through I remembered that it has been widely described as ‘the Icelandic Skins.’ For me this isn’t a compliment. The movie is nowhere near as bad as that TV series is, but the description does underline part of the problem with the film: after a certain point, it feels like a soap opera.

There was a story circulating in February of last year that Martin Scorsese and Lars von Trier would be collaborating to remake the former’s 1976 classic, Taxi Driver. It would be done in the vein of the latter’s The Five Obstructions, a documentary he made where he challenges filmmaker Jorgen Leth to remake his short, The Perfect Human. It seemed like it was just a crazy rumor, and both parties blew it off as such.
But it looks like it’ll be happening in some form, as THR says that the two are indeed collaborating for a remake of The Five Obstructions. For those of you who don’t know that film pictured to the right, it had von Trier challenging Leth to remake The Perfect Human five different times, and each time with a new “obstruction” (hence the title). They included not being allowed to have any shots be more than 12 frames,...

Nice girl falls in love with a bad boy. It’s adapted from a novel by Graham Greene, so it’s got pedigree. Carey Mulligan was all set to play the nice girl till she dropped out to do Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps... We’ll see if she made the right choice. She surely was paid more for the Oliver Stone movie, but she barely had anything to do in it; this one looks like it might have been more creatively satisfying. But I guess creative satisfaction isn’t everything when you’re hoping to become a big star... Brighton Rock opens in the U.K. on February 4; no U.S or Canadian release dates have been announced.

Porn parodies/remakes of well loved properties are all the rage right now. This year we’ve seen XXX rated versions of Batman & Superman with more apparently on the way. The latest to be announced is a 3 hour porn version of Quentin Tarantino’s early 90′s Sundance hit Reservoir Dogs which no, won’t just be a gay orgy (there’s famously no notable female characters in Tarantino’s film) as the colourful characters have been re-imagined as Ms. Pink, Ms. Orange and Nice Girl Eddie, etc.
The project comes from Exquisite Films, the same ‘high-end adult studio’ that just wrapped filming on a Justice League porno and will be a “upscale, mature parody of Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic” and not just sex scene followed by sex scene (which it of course will be). The large running time is to faithfully accommodate the heavy-dialogue and I presume the heist plot/rat-in-the-house concept remains?...

"Dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick, dick." "How many dicks is that?" "A lot." Quentin Tarantino pretty much embedded the idea of a porn version of Reservoir Dogs in the dialog for the film's talky opening sequence [1]. And while the idea of porn parodies of popular films is all but comically bankrupt, I'll admit there's some brief amusement value in thinking about the porn version of, for instance, the sequence where Mr. Orange is bleeding like a pig all over the back seat of Mr. White's car. (Or did Catherine Breillat already do that in Anatomy of Hell?) Still: a porn Reservoir Dogs? Yawn. But then this became post-worthy when I saw that the running time of the film is planned for three hours. I guess that's what happens when you try to smash together a 99-minute dialogue-heavy story and a full-length porn film. If you want the dirty details,...

We really have had it all wrong about schizophrenia. Wes Craven has revealed within My Soul to Take a brand new working theory of schizophrenia that is bound to turn stupid old science on its head. It's not about misfiring neurons, chemical imbalances, childhood trauma, or anything silly like that; schizophrenics are simply people who have become jam packed with extra human souls. Most people just have one soul, and schizophrenics can have two, three, or even seven souls. The world is made clear. Take that, science!
It's been sixteen years since the fall of the dreaded 'Riverton Ripper'. On his last fateful night, he was gunned down in the height of a murder spree, only to spring to life in the back...

For people who love movies, and we at MTV News certainly do, 2010's box-office offerings have been a little inconsistent. Nevertheless, if you've been passing up the mediocrity in anticipation of something worth your time and hard-earned dollars, "Easy A" is your reason to get back to the theater. Yes, we've gushed a bit about it all week, but it is that good.
Nice girl/ semi-outsider Olive (Stone) makes a deal with a guy friend to pretend to have loud, crazy sex at a house party so the bullies at their high school will think he's "cool" and leave him alone. But that one good-natured act soon spirals into many more "requests" from other similarly plagued students. Soon the high school rumor mill has been set ablaze...

Maybe There's No Brokeback Mountain Or Milk, But There's Also No I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
The fall movie season is upon us, and while we've already uncovered pretty much everything gay on TV, we haven't yet taken a look at what's gay in theaters over the next few months. But that's partly because there usually isn't enough to fill up a page, much less an entire movie preview article. Sadly, that looks to be the case this fall.
Nonetheless, with that in mind, I've dispatched a squad of AfterElton flying monkeys to poke around and see what they can find. And to make fun of the rest.
What did they learn? For starters, Betty White isn't as nice as she seems...

The second annual Arkansas Underground Film Festival returns to Hot Springs, Ar on Aug. 13-15 for an eclectic mix of both classic and modern films and videos.
Actually, after the festival’s official website vanished from the web following their inaugural edition last year, I thought Arkuff had called it quits. But, they’ve simply moved to a new website and are apparently somehow affiliated with the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival.
It also seems to be a totally curated festival sans submissions from filmmakers. The fest mostly consists of themed short film blocks, such as first films by filmmakers like David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Jim Henson and Guy Maddin; a night of classic avant-garde films by Bruce Conner and Kenneth Anger; a William Wegman retrospective; and a block devoted to Riot Grrrl cinema by Sadie Benning and Miranda July.
The two features that are being screened are David Lynch...

Let's start with the truth: this episode was so uninspiring. I watched it last night, and then re-watched it idly while working this morning, and as I sit here and think of all the Omg Dramz points I want to bring up, I've got nothing. But that can't be true! The City takes up an entire 17 minutes (if one shrewdly skips commercials) and so something must have happened! And then we remember: something happens. And it involves Shakespeare. The beginning: Whitney "Nice Girl" Port got some pretty nice reviews of her line, though Kelly "Best Advice Giver In The World" Cutrone told her that the bad ones are more important because you can learn from them. Whitney then held her press and market appointments and Kelly helpfully walked her through exactly what she was supposed to do. If you've...

Hayden Panettiere has been getting some serious bad press lately, and the pint-size hero wants you to know that none of it is true. First, Panettiere was accused of acting like a huge diva on the red carpet at a fundraising event in Hawaii. Then, she was accused of trying to get ex-boyfriend Milo Ventimiglia fired on "Heroes" because she can't work with him. And she says all that is crazy talk! Because she loves the press! And she's still close to her ex! Where do people get ideas like this? They totally must come from thin air...Speaking to Ok!, Hayden Panettiere insisted that despite having broken up, she and Ventimiglia, "are very close. ...
