The Fashion Show
boblipton3 November 2019
In this promotional trailer for the film MADE IN PARIS, Richard Crenna plays himself -- or at least an actor named Richard Crenna -- who narrates a fashion show of the clothes (and the fashion models). It's only natural considering the subject matter. He then introduces us to the woman who designed the clothes, Helen Rose.

Although not as well remembered as her contemporary. Edith Head -- who also appeared in a short promotional film for a movie whose clothes she had designed, PENELOPE -- Miss Rose was no slouch herself. In her time she was nominated for an Oscar for costume design eight times, and won twice.

There's little that the studios would not do to promote their films. Why, they'd even design clothes that made Ann Margaret look sexy!

Promotional short for MGM's "Made in Paris"...
Doylenf19 April 2009
RICHARD CRENNA is the star of this MGM promotional short that concentrates mostly on Helen Rose's fashions that were created for ANN-MARGRET and EDIE ADAMS in the romantic "Made In Paris." Crenna narrates while the film shows an occasional clip from the film, which also gives us a glimpse of LOUIS JOURDAN and CHAD EVERETT.

It's strictly a by-the-numbers sort of dry commentary that seems to assume the viewer is fascinated by a look at women's costumes for the film.

Crenna does what he can to give a sense of humor to the whole thing, but it's a strain. His brief talk with designer Helen Rose is so scripted, it's painful to watch. Typical MGM gloss to push a product.

This film promo highlights a flick which is . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . probably as extinct as the 12-toed giant sloth. When the orphaned advertisement (FROM PARIS: YOUR REPORTER, RICHARD CRENNA) is shown from time to time on one of those old movie groupie TV channels, it is followed by an unrelated feature such as THE HILTON THAT SWALLOWED PARIS or THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO WARS: BERLIN TO PARIS. So if you're cleaning out the DVD's and VHS tapes in your grandparents' attic, DO NOT sell a copy of MADE IN PARIS for a quarter at a yard or estate sale in the unlikely event that you run across one. Instead, carefully bubble wrap this rare commodity, and ship it to Bonham's Auction House. Let them sell it to the highest-bidding vintage flick TV channel: you could become a Hundred-Naire! Or, if you're a "core supporter" of alleged POTUS #45, and want to follow the trail that your role model has blazed as a prolific tax cheat, why not donate such a rarity as MADE IN PARIS to the Smithsonian, writing it off as a $1,000 deductible? Oops--I forgot: Your leader has cancelled out the opportunity for this sort of chicanery for all non-billionaires! At any rate, does the World really NEED something titled FROM PARIS: YOUR REPORTER, RICHARD CRENNA in these Troubled Times?!
