Jerry, a small-time hood, had the bad luck of runing a red light, accidentally ramming Mob boss Margolese's car, which happened to be transporting a victim in the trunk. Now, Jerry must work off his 'debt' while Margolese is in the slammer. The current assignment from Margolese is to meet up with with his grandson, Beck, who is in possession of, 'The Mexican', a very valuable gun that has a long, cursed story which is re-told several times throughout the movie. Beck manages to get accidentally killed during a celebration, and Jerry's car is stolen, along with the dead Beck and The Mexican. The remainder of the story involves Jerry trying to recapture The Mexican, while trying to avoid various shady characters along the way. Meanwhile, Leroy, a mob hit man, has kidnapped Jerry's ex-girlfriend, Samantha, to use her as leverage so that Jerry will return and surrender the valuable pistol. Leroy and Samantha travel towards Jerry, while discussing their respective problems in trying to form lasting relationships with men (Leroy is gay). In the end, Jerry manages to get The Mexican to Margolese, discharge his debt, and make up with Samantha. We finally learn the true story of The Mexican, and the circle is closed (except for the various bodies left in the wake).
