What a wonderful little programmer. And very rare too. I don't think many people saw it. This feature was released during the summer 1980 in Paris. In total unconcern of anyone. What a shame.
This film tales the story of a politician - Cassel - involved in a deadly car accident in which his mistress was killed. And Cassel is helped by a man of his acquaintance, a publicist, who tries some months later to blackmail him. He wants the politician to help him with his influences, for business, of course. And Cassel can't do that. Impossible for him. And that's the beginning of his problems, because of the publicist who threatens Cassel to...Guess what.
So, Cassel talks to a close friend of his - Bruno Ganz - a nuclear physics teacher in an university near Paris. He tells everything, including that he would like the publicist to die. And Ganz decides to help his friend. Ganz is a lonely man who is obsessed by number theories, statistics, probabilities. So, the two friends talk about the possibilities to commit the perfect crime. The perfect murder.
And at this point the movie becomes exciting, unusual, unforgettable. Ganz prepares with lots of meticulosity the perfect crime. How he will be able to kill the blackmailer in the shortest period of time, because of the perfect alibi. A nearly impossible bet to take. Only five percent of risks.
I won't spoil the film any longer.
But, believe me, it's absolutely outstanding. The score, editing and acting are fantastic. You're are stuck to this incredible feature.
