Like 'Sanctuary' before it, this was part of the new wave of socially aware dramas that was spawned from 'Cathy Come Home'. The Befrienders concerned the work of The Samaritans and the dramas that unfolded from from the desperate phone calls. Megs Jenkins whos acting talents were previously confined to mostly bit parts is in the lead here and lets rip carrying the series along with enjoyable dramas.
