Irish actor Peter McDonald upstaged one of Briatin's biggest screen stars at an awards ceremony in Belfast. Unknown McDonald won Best Actor at the second Irish Film and Television Awards, ahead of Scottish screen idol Ewan McGregor. Ewan was nominated for his performance as James Joyce in the movie Nora (2000), but was beaten by McDonald who won for his performance in the Irish film Saltwater (2000) - a movie which has only been released in Ireland. Saltwater (2000) also won the Best Screenplay category, with its director and writer Conor McPherson taking the award. »
