Although a source told People that Matt Lauer believed that his affair with the Today show colleague who reported him to NBC was “consensual,” he “should absolutely have refrained” from engaging in an intimate relationship with a co-worker, according to a human resources expert.
“The power differential between him and literally every other Today show employee is huge. Any relationship he has with an NBC employee will be heavily influenced — a better term might be ‘tainted’ — by that differential,” The Purposeful Culture Group’s Chris Edmonds exclusively tells People. “The only person who benefits from a workplace affair like this is the person in power.

Looks like Hoda Kotb will be sitting in Matt Lauer's chair for a bit longer.
A source at NBC tells Et that Kotb "will be in the co-anchor chair for the foreseeable future," after Lauer was fired from the Today show last week for inappropriate sexual behavior.
Kotb was by Savannah Guthrie's side when she made the shocking announcement of Lauer's firing on air last Wednesday. Just days later, there were rumblings that Megyn Kelly, who invited the women accusing Lauer of sexual misconduct to her show, was being eyed as Lauer's permanent replacement, however, a source told Et at the time that Willie Geist was a more likely option. By Tuesday, Et had learned that Craig Melvin was also in the running.
As for the investigation into Lauer's alleged misconduct by NBCUniversal Legal and Human Resources, the review is still only in its early stages, according to the source. There have been approximately...

Saturday Night Live celebrated the holiday season with a politically charged cold open this weekend based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
After sitting the last few episodes out, Alec Baldwin returned to reprise his acclaimed impression of President Donald Trump.
In the sketch, Baldwin's Trump says he's in "pouty baby mode" over the ongoing investigations by Robert Mueller and fired National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's decision to plead guilty to lying to the FBI as part of a rumored deal to reveal information regarding Mueller's probe into possible Russian interference in the 2016 election.
As Trump ruminates alone in the oval office, he's soon visited by Flynn wearing heavy chains and shackles (a la Jacob Marley) who calls himself "the ghost of witness flipped." Flynn warns Trump that he's going to be visited by three other ghosts as well, starting with Billy Bush (in the role of the Ghost of Christmas Past).

The sexual misconduct allegations brought against Matt Lauer came as a shock to Today show audiences — and to the terminated longtime anchor.
According to a source with knowledge of the former anchor’s firing — it came after after the network received a “detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior” on Monday — “in mind, this had been a consensual affair. And a long-term one at that.” (In a statement obtained by People, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said the complaint “represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards.”)
“He was totally devastated,” the source says of Lauer.

The sexual misconduct allegations against Matt Lauer that just came to light apparently occurred three years ago.
A source at NBC tells Et that the 59-year-old newsman was fired from the Today show after a woman came forward accusing Lauer of "inappropriate sexual behavior" throughout 2014, including at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The network source also tells Et that the woman spoke with human resources on Monday, and the decision to terminate Lauer's estimated $20 million contract was decided on Tuesday night.
Another source tells Et that NBC News chairman Andrew Lack had an editorial call on Wednesday morning, and told employees that Lauer was remorseful and understood their decision to fire him. The source adds that the allegations that the accuser brought forward are very credible, which is why NBC decided to take action.

Laurent Cantet has been a bit absent in the international cinema scene ever since winning the Palme d’Or for 2008’s The Class. It’s not for a lack of trying, of course. He’s released two feature since then (Foxfire and Return to Ithaca), but they just didn’t catch on the way his best movies (Time Out, Human Resources) have in the past. He’s now back at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section with The Workshop, (L’Atelier), which has Cantet’s gift of mixing social relevance through wordy dialogue with nail-biting tension, and is as relevant as anything playing at the festival. The tension takes time to build, but when it finally explodes, it brings a whiplash one never sees coming.

Linda‘s fate was essentially sealed last week when the unconventional sitcom failed to secure a series order ahead of Fox’s upfront presentation. Network brass, however, said the pilot remained in contention for the 2017-18 season. That is no longer the case. And there are apparently no plans to shop Linda around to another network/outlet.

French writer-director Laurent Cantet is perhaps best known for his 2008 Palme d’Or-winning docudrama The Class, but some of his earlier films – especially the haunting unemployment saga Time Out and the taut workplace drama Human Resources – reveal a predilection for dark, character-based thrillers where the line between reality, fiction and a certain kind of madness is not always easy to discern.

Genre favorite Joe Lynch gives corporate culture a double middle finger with his most recent project, Mayhem, an action-fueled social satire that ambitiously provides viewers with a wish fulfillment scenario: what if you had a free pass to act out your wildest, most perverse urges, simply because you no longer had any control over your own impulses? In this scenario, Lynch goes for broke and then some, as Mayhem is truly his most ambitious effort to date, offering up a ridiculously fun Thunderdome-esque situation where chaos ensues and nothing is off limits.
Written by Matias Caruso, Mayhem introduces us to the ID7 Virus, a pathogen that does an emotional hijacking on its hosts, where their id is left uninhibited, and they can’t help but go absolutely nuts. Sometimes ID7 results in two people going at it like dogs in heat on a conference room table, and sometimes it causes...
