Back in August was when G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hit the screens, and while I had no reason to expect anything but a merciless brain-pummeling from the experience, I walked out suitably impressed with the flick's popcorn-tastic mentality. I even ended my review with this: "Truth be told, the flick's action centerpiece, a crazy chase through Paris, will soon be on heavy blu-ray rotation around my house." Yes, the director who slapped me with The Mummy Returns and pummeled me with Van Helsing is now back in my good graces. (The awesomely amusing Deep Rising is always the tie-breaker for Stephen Sommers.)
You can enjoy my wonderfully insightful G.I. Joe review right here if you like, but this time out I just want to focus on the blu-ness and not the wackness: If you liked the flick, you want to own it on Blu-ray, trust me on that one. »

I thought the response to my "Do You Ever Lie about the Movies You've Seen? " post was excellent, and on top of everything so many of you said, several new questions came as a result. One of them, offered by 'Steve Mott', asks the question in the headline: Do you have guilty pleasures you don't like to admit to?
Steve lists his guilty pleasure as 10 Things I Hate About You, a film I personally love and was just discussing recently with a friend when the topic of "Where the hell did Julia Stiles go?" came up. To that effect I also love Save the Last Dance and to answer the Stiles question before someone gets smart in the comments, yes, she has the Bourne films and wrote and directed a film starring Zooey Deschanel and has also been doing plenty of work on stage. Moving along...

Stephen Sommers’ helmed “Van Helsing” is a lighthearted and over-the-top affair. Sommers is best known for similar work in “The Mummy,” “The Mummy Returns” and the recent “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.” Although this was fun to watch at the time, it is and will slowly take on spoof proportions as time goes on. It should not to be taken seriously and thrown into the horror genre by any means. Jackman takes the role of the title character, a man who’s busy at first site hunting down Mr. Hyde who has disposed of numerous male, female and child victims. He even has his own Q as Bond does in Carl (David Wenham of “Lord of the Rings” and “Australia”) who develops high-tech weapons 007 would love to get his paws on. Then we have Frankenstein refuses to cooperate with Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) who wishes to naturally use him for his own dire needs, »

Channing Tatum's new action film 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' had a great opening and is already breaking records. It made over $22.3 million on Friday, had the biggest opening day in August for a non-sequel film beating 2002’s ‘Signs’ ($20.9 million), the second-highest opening day for a Stephen Sommers film behind 2001’s ‘The Mummy Returns’ ($23.4 million), and the third highest opening for an August release behind 2007's ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ ($24.7 million) and 2001’s ‘Rush Hour 2’ ($23 million).
While I'm working on the behind-the-scenes post for the Los Angeles premiere of the film, I thought I would go ahead and share some of Chan and Jenna's gorgeous press photos with you all from the last stop in the world-wide press tour. You can check out a ton of new photos in the slideshow below...

Short Version: G.I. Joe is a summer popcorn action movie done right.
Screen Rant reviews G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
I’ll start right off by saying that G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra is what the Transformers franchise should be.
Following months of trailers and clips that frankly, made this movie look like it was going to be awful, imagine my surprise when I actually ended up enjoying it. I don’t recall ever seeing a marketing campaign that so made me Not want to see a movie that turned out to be decent.
G.I Joe starts out unexpectedly centuries ago with a man named McCullen about to be punished for some heinous crime. He goes on about how his ancestors will avenge him and whatnot and it’s pretty overdramatic - from this scene I wasn’t really sure what to expect as far »

The Summer blockbuster season goes out with a bang in the action-packed adrenaline ride G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Director Stephen Sommers, whose previous films include The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and Van Helsing, piles on the pyrotechnics in a full-on assault of action and special effects.
G.I. Joe is an American line of military action figures marketed in the UK as Action Man and Action Force. The toys were also adapted into comics and cartoons, with Sommers saying he drew mainly on the comic books for the film's story.
Paramount Pictures and toymakers Hasbro are hoping for another big-screen franchise after previously collaborating to turn Transformers into a monster hit at the box office.
For those unfamiliar with the G.I. Joe brand, imagine putting Top Gun, The A-Team, Thunderbirds, the earlier Bond movies and the X-Men into a blender with a hefty dose of steroids, and this is what might result. »

It’s not very often that such a fond childhood memory of mine is given the opportunity to play itself out on the big screen. Transformers? It never played any real part in my childhood, so when I saw it on the big screen it wasn’t with the fondness of someone who’d acted out their very own Transformers movies as a child, in the playground with friends.
That was the feeling I got when the opening credits rolled on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra this past Saturday, at an exclusive screening in the prestigious Vue cinema at the O2 Arena.
My love of G.I. Joe (or Action Force as it was called in the UK back then), began during a turbulent time in my life, I’d just moved away from my Mother and Siblings to live with my Father in a strange part of town, »

Terminator Salvation 2009 115 minutes Rated PG-13 by Scott Mendelson Terminator Salvation is arguably the closest thing to non-stop action since The Mummy Returns. It opens in the thick of a military operation and barely slows down for its 115 minutes. Character development is almost non-existent and the picture relies on our prior knowledge of the previous Terminator pictures. The characters are paper thin and the film has obvious signs of tinkering. Ironically, for a film that constantly opines about the strength of the human heart, the film lacks the very heart and soul that brought humanity to the first three pictures. It is occasionally a first-rate action spectacle, but it is only the spectacle that merits recommendation. A token amount of plot: Judgment Day has come and gone, and in the year 2018 the human resistance continues to press on against »

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Terminator Salvation
Photo: Warner Bros. / Paramount and DreamWorks Looking at this weekend's release of Terminator Salvation I can't help but think that on paper it has serious potential to become the highest grossing film of 2009. It is part of a beloved franchise, it stars Christian Bale whom many can now associate with Batman, the trailers look impressive and it's rated PG-13, which brings in a whole new audience that would have either had to sneak in by paying for another film or not seen it at all. Of course, the early reviews aren't exactly falling head over heels for it, but the most hateful of the bunch being The Hollywood Reporter saying, "It's just not the same without the Governator," leads me to believe they may have done into the film with the wrong frame of mind. With the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the 2009 summer movie season has begun. A cursory glance at the upcoming slate of summer releases looks pretty weak this year, but I’m not here to look ahead. Instead, I noticed that we’ve reached the twenty-year anniversary of the “true” summer movie age. Sure, Jaws and Star Wars were the godfathers of the movement, and the close-following summers since that time often saw two or three big releases looking to cash in on the popcorn-munching crowd, but it was 1989 when the summer movie calendar started to become bloated. The large number of crowd-pleasing titles (and bevy of sequels) included the following: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Batman, Ghostbusters II, License to Kill, Star Trek V, Lethal Weapon 2, The Abyss, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and, to a lesser extent, The Karate Kid: Part III. So on the Platinum Anniversary of the summer flick phenomenon, »

There's a definite trend in action movies for iconic structures to be destroyed - and upcoming action movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is no exception.
This time it's the Eiffel Tower in Paris that is targeted and is seen toppling into the Seine in a visually thrilling sequence in the new trailer included here.
Director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Van Helsing) delivers a power-packed spectacle in the $170million film based on the action figure franchise.
Former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston is the main villain, running the Cobra terrorist organisation. Out to stop him are the G.I. Joe team of operatives.
The film focuses on Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) joining the team, providing an audience viewpoint in much the same way as Wolverine and Rogue's induction into the X-Men did in the first film in 2000. The film is released by Paramount »
