The original Broadway production of "Mr. Roberts" by Thomas Heggen and Joshua Logan opened at the Alvin Theater on February 18, 1948, ran for 1157 performances and won the 1948 Tony Award (New York City) for the Best Play.
Reinstated a joke that was cut from the original Broadway production. When Roberts says of Ensign Pulver "He's pretty resourceful. Where'd he get the clap last year?" the producers cut the last last part of the line when some members of the audience complained. The line was put back in for this television production.
