Recently Girls star Jemima Kirke was asked about the finale of Girls and even though many fans were disappointed Kirke said she “loved it.” But a more important question she was asked is if she would want to do some kind of reunion be it a movie or more television. Jemima said that she’d “love to” and would be very interested to see where the Girls would be 10 years from now. But here’s the question: Could Girls pull off a movie? The easy answer to this one is “of course” and you can probably bet that Lena Dunham’s already

If the experiences of sex industry worker, amateur boxer and sports-betting expert Beth Raymer really did happen as they do in her memoir, boy has she lived a full life already by the age of 36. Perhaps reading her book will shed some light too, on Stephen Frears’ screen adaptation of the same name, Lay the Favourite, that feels like a barrage of disjointed, far-fetched scenarios smothered in rapid-fire, betting-heavy jargon, leaving everyone a loser.
Rebecca Hall plays ex-stripper Beth who goes to Las Vegas to do something meaningful, and ends up becoming a sports-betting expert overnight when gambling guru Dink Heimowitz (Bruce Willis) goes with a hunch and gives her a job working the sportsbook system to their advantage. After falling for the older guy, Dink – and making an enemy of his high-maintenance and jealous wife, Tulip (Catherine Zeta-Jones), spurned Beth then falls for visiting journalist (Joshua Jackson). However, she...

This week on Dead Air Jeff Konopka is joined by Kristy Jett to tackle Chernobyl Diaries. Shawn Savage was on location in Russia sampling soil samples for a planned giveaway to celebrate this Geiger counter splitting new release. While I have not as of yet seen this movie it has been described to me by horror fans as a Hills Have Eyes with a different location and sans the superfluous gore. From what our beloved hosts have to say about the film I might just wait for it to come on Blu-Ray, but best to listen in and make that determination with all the facts.
Beyond our feature the crew discussed their recent viewing selection and some news which include:
- Jeff’s Starship Troopers annual Memorial Day viewing experience. This conversation always leads to a mention of Show Girls so please stay tuned.

Ladies (and gentlemen-ladies), how would you feel about a second season of Girls? Or Veep? As of today, HBO has decided to renew both freshman shows for a 10-episode second season, a pretty quick decision considering they’ve only been on the air for a matter of a few weeks. Girls has so far been attracting a respectable 3.8 million viewers a week, while Veep has been pulling down 3.7 million. So our question is: are you are psyched for another season of Lena Dunham and Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Are you quietly thinking that only one (the one you love) should have made it to their sophomore season? Have you been pretending to watch them so you have something to talk about at lunch, when in reality all you watch is TLC’s My Strange Addiction? Not that we’d blame you, ladies (and man-ladies).
Alternatively, maybe you’re still so exhausted from...

“Do you know what happens to an eyeball when it is punctured?” asks Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher (1985), sliding a switchblade up to The Kid’s eye, catching a tear on the glistening blade and watching it twinkle in the passing highway lights. This was not in the script and co-star C. Thomas Howell may have had to contemplate the fact that this bear-like Dutch actor might actually show him.
After all, with his manic intensity, reliance on gut instinct and bloody-minded commitment to character Hauer had become one of Hollywood’s favourite psychos. Roles in Blade Runner (1982) and Flesh and Blood (1985) had cemented his reputation as an unhinged cinematic killer – “a one-man slaughterhouse,” as one critic labelled him.
In the 1980s Hauer seemed fearless. Onscreen he was intense and regularly insisted on fucking with his audience (and co-stars) expectations. He claims he put the blade to Howell’s eye because it,...

[This is your *Spoiler* Warning folks, there are some details of the film given away below, if you want to go in fresh, come back after Christmas!]
There are times in life where you come to question the reality around you and whether it even exists, or if everything is just a part of your skewed imagination. Watching Black Swan was most certainly one of those experiences. I left the theater feeling like a character from a John Paul Sartre novel. I was unsure of my surroundings and unable to relate to my peers and battled a vicious case of nausea. It was as if a curtain was pulled back and an entirely new world was revealed. Or I may have just taken one too many sips from the magical flask.
Black Swan is about the extremes artists and performers go to create their art, completely losing themselves and all rational perception of the world around them in the process. But it wasn't the story of one dancer's nightmarish journey to embody the Black Swan of Swan Lake that left me bewildered.

First thing’s first, I’d just like to repeat that this is Nsfw, as you can probably ascertain from this screen grab. And the fact that the phrase “sex scene” is in the headline. A sex scene that I have watched five times already. And counting. This isn’t your mom’s non-pop-culture-relevant sex scene (what?). This is a Mark-Paul Gosselar sex scene. And, for whatever reason, Saved By The Bell references hold fast and strong and dear in my heart, as I know they do in so many of yours as well. Well, you know what? Let’s call a spade a spade and say that this would not be the case if this were a Dustin Diamond or Lark Voorhies sex scene. My Saved By The Bell loyalties only go so far. Specifically, as far as this scene. Show Girls? Not my cup ‘o tea. Not even ironically.

When I heard that The History Channel had a reality show about a pawnshop, I was a world of excited. And then when I heard it was set in Las Vegas, well, I think I might have started to tremble. Oh, the stories they could tell! I imagined a bunch of characters from an Elmore Leonard novel, some in Hawaiian shirts, others sporting capes, while yet more would be wearing three-piece suits styled in the 80s. Suicidal gamblers, Show Girls, meth head hookers and Russian loan sharks would be streaming through the place at all hours, and failure, desperation and human misery would be in abundant supply. In short, I envisioned a show like "Taxi Cab Confessions," only in a pawnshop.
Well, instead of this, I got "Pawn Stars," which chronicles the day to day operations of the Gold and Silver Pawnshop, a 24 hour a day joint run by the Harrison family.
