first of all,why have a load of video game titles for the Nintendo consoles (new and old) made their way onto the best film site on the internet? Anyway,that aside,this is one of the best video games in history!!! its non-serious tone makes it enjoyable for those who wouldn't ever go near a sports sim,and it has wonderful characters,each with their own style and personality.(just try to get by king hippo, or Mr.Dream!) Get nostalgic and give this one a go!!!!

Punch-Out is brilliant! With a lot of control options. At first I thought this must be some kind of "Rocky" game, getting pummeled by a bum like Spider Rico. Once incorporating blocking, dodging and counter-attacking combos, the game goes to another level. You get increasingly better at the game each time you play and you're surprised by what once seemed difficult. That's the sign of a great game, the ability to expand skill level and it's fun and humorous too. The Japan Honda guy's combo's ridiculous heh, can only dodge half the punches at best. Eventually passed him, more challenges await. I recall Bart and Homer playing a similar take on it in "The Simpsons."

The Punch-Out! series is one of the most unique boxing video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!
Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!
Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Nintendo System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!
Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!
Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!
Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!
Overall: I have always loved Punch-Out! If you like excellent boxing and fighting adventure games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

This is the arcade game, not the console game

A fun quarter-eater from the early 80s. Though the version of this game for the Nintendo (Mike Tyson's Punch Out) didn't look quite as impressive or have the same sound quality, it had more depth.
Never beat the game myself but I saw it get beaten several times. If I remember correctly, the opponents were "Glass Joe", "Bald Bull", "Kid Quick", and the champ was named "Mr. Sandman". There's another one in there between Glass Joe and Bald Bull but I can't remember his name. Challenging game, especially if you weren't good at timing.
Bald Bull went on to make a guest appearance in another arcade game about arm-wrestling (as a mask-wearing character named Mr. X).
